As you prob realized already, the SOUND Quality sux on the 1535's..I was googlin' around and came across this fix on how to improve the sound.

    htt p://niranjanthilak.com/tip-increasing-the-dell-studio-15-series-laptops-sound/

I followed this dude's instructions, and just like that the SOUND drastically IMPROVED!! Sound is much more crisp, LOUDER, and improved bass.

All you have to do is use the Default Microsoft Vista drivers instead of the crap Dell Drivers..Just uninstall the Dell Sound drivers, and restart the machine..Vista should automatically put the default one's in..

Hope it works for y'all! :)

Well, the point about Studio laptop is not that they are not very loud but rather they are 1) too tiny 2) Lack any bass whatsoever 3) (the biggest problem), the audio seems to get affected by Wi-Fi (sound skipping) and 4) The Mic hardly works.

The hack here will make it louder but does it improve any of the other problems (Specially 3 and 4)????

I'm with default Vista Driver now - and the Sound is BOMBA!
With DELL IDT Drivers - non stop crackling + bad sound!
You are right Vista Default Driver is 10 times better for now!
Guys from Dell are on work for new improved AUDIO DRIVER (FIXED CRACKLING)
But it is very informative thread for all other guys here...

I am at a loss with this one - When I uninstalled the driver, it re-installed itself. Fair enough, so I removed the IDT driver files from C:\Drivers and from C:\Program Files\IDT.

Its still installing the IDT again, and the only other location of anything to do with IDT is in C:\Windows\System32, and I am reluctant to mess around with files in there.

    Any other ideas?

    "try this:

Control Panel ->click Hardware and Sound -> then go Device Manager
look the “Sound, video and game controllers” you will see there under it the IDT right click on it and then unstall. and then restart.

if doesn’t update automatically the driver, there’s another option.
Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Device Manager ->right click in Sound, Video and game controller ->choose “scan for hardware changes” then automatically will update your driver to “High Definition Driver”.

    Hope it will help."

I contacted my local support center.
    I had/have crackling sound issue!
We replaced my Wireless and my motherboard (with the same model Wifi and motherboard)...
Well some problems was fixed but the "crackling issue" still persist with Dell's Sound Drivers (Now my wireless is complete OFF so...)...

The guy from my Local Dell Support Center asked Dell about this issue.....
And they told him "We are working on new Audio Driver. It will fix the "Crackling" Issue. No realize date..."...
The text was primary on Bulgarian language...
    So sorry my English...

Great info on the sound driver ;)

I have ordered the upgraded Integrated Sound Blaster® Audigy™ Advanced HD Software for my Studio 1537 - this is not the add on Express Card.

Does anyone else have this software upgrade and any idea how this performs compared to the Vista sound drivers?

    Thanks ;)

NICE! It worked great. THANK YOU VERY MUCH for the info.
The weak sound was one of the biggest con for this laptop and uninstalling that driver just fixed that. You just made the laptop 10X times better for me.

Thanks very much for this info. I only wish I had checked this forum first instead of wasting time Googling it, reading about other people with the same problem who were told that laptop speakers are just plain quiet and to go buy external speakers.

Shoutcast streams in Winamp were hella loud, while movies, tv shows, and website were all quiet on my new Studio 15 I just got 2 weeks ago, so I knew this was a problem with something else in Vista.

I followed the instructions in the link and now I'm free to blow my speakers if I so choose (but obviously won't do. There are some side effects however.

Firstly, after uninstalling the IDT drivers and rebooting (giving Vista plenty of time to reinstall the basic drivers) I had no audio. This is because the Playback Devices had the "Digital Output Device (HDMI)" set as the default. I set the new "Speakers" device to default and now I have audio.

The other side effect is that the nice blue Dell OSD for volume and mute buttons no longer work. They work if you switch back to the HDMI device, but the new Speakers device has no OSD. I just realized after making this post that you can uninstall and reinstall the Quickset software which makes the OSD work for the new Speakers device.

Awesome, worked a treat for my 1537. It doesn't make the speakers suck less, but the volume is vastly improved, and I'm noticing less crackling (it seriously sounded like the left speaker is blown at times; it's still not perfect but it's definitely much better, I think it's just reacting badly to a specific sound frequency). Even the OSD still works. :)

    Thanks so much!

Try this instead of the uninstall. Locate "IDT High Definition Audio CODED" in the Device Manager. Then right-click, on it and select "Update Driver Software". Then select "Browse My Computer for the Drivers", next click "Let me pick from a List of device drivers on my computer". Finally select "High Definition Audio Device" and click next. Wait for the install to complete, and you should have LOUD tinny speakers! Hooray! Also, if you want the OSD for the volume to work again, do a repair on the Dell Quickset, and reboot and the volume OSD will work again (Thanks to ScaryFast for that information!).

Where's my Tiny Tim album, that will sound Great on these speakers!

Wow. I just wanted to give a big thank you. I thought the speaker quality was just horrible, and I really didn't understand HOW they could let speakers like this through - and while they're still not great, they're actually worth listening to now.

Does the 1537 suffer from the same problem as the 1535 ?

    What about the 1735 ?

Thank you so much, This was so easy and works great! iI love smart innovate soultions:
Laptopaddict, I just got my 1537 and the sound was terrible. Just delete the dell driver and leave the vista driver and you will be straight. When uninstalling the driver from device manager, make sure you click the small box that says "remove software" so when you restart the dell driver wont automatically install again:

    Thanks Mas,

I am considering it and might try it, I have a older Dell Insprion B150 and might swap them.
