Hi everybody. I want to buy Dell Studio 1535 with Intel T8100 (or T8300), Ati HD3450, Wi-Fi A/B/G etc. I have already read all the reviews. But I think, that the owners of these laptops know more about them =)
    1. What can you tell about the glossy touchpad? Is it comfortable or lustreless touchpad is better?
    2. Is the screen good? I am interested in good colours, because i will work with photoshop.
    3. Did you try to play the latest games at this laptop? Is it possible to play Crysis at the minimal settings?
P.S. I don't know why but in Ukraine this laptop can be ordered only with 2GB ram and only with 6-cell battery.

    My views

    1) Touch pad is not that glossy. I find it OK, had to adjust the settings to make it little bit faster but thats a personal choice

    2) Screen is very good. I have the normal 1200x800 screen and I am fine with it. People who have he WLED version are still more happy and so its upto you and your budget. (WLED is a significant upgrade)

    3) I can't answer any question on gaming as I don't game at all in this. But there are many threads here where people posted their results with gaming.

    1) the touch pad surface is a bit rough, making it just nice for fingers to travel around.

    2) i have the WLED screen and things just looked darn good. I recommend you getting the WLED since you will be working with photoshop. The LEDs made the colours looked even more vibrant.

    3) i have not tried Crysis, but i've tried these:

    a) Half Life 2 Series - smooth with recommended settings (mostly maxed out)

    b) Devil May Cry 4 - on directx9 - smooth when shadows on low, and everything else on high

    c) Assassin's Creed - on directx9 - playable on 1280 x 900 resolution with shadows on low, screen quality on medium, level of details on medium.

according to notebookcheck, you should be able to play Crysis at minimal settings

in Malaysia, only 6-cell batteries are available too... and don't worry about the RAM, you could upgrade it somewhere else :)

Best touchpad I've use, I sped it up as well and now it's perfect. The material doesn't slow you down and is consistent.

Get the LED if you can afford, most people say they won't see a difference but when you compare the LED to a regular LCD it really stands out.

    "But can it play Crysis?"
That's a classic question now. If you want to play games get the XPS 1530 (at least) or a console. The Studio is made for casual gaming.

I won't play long. I don't have enough time for it. But sometimes i want to play a good game with someone) And in future we will se for example GTA4 on PC. And hope this laptop will give me a possibility to play it.
About touchpad - today i tried HP Pavilion's glossy touchpad. And you know, i liked it very much. I think that Dell is not worse.
And i have the only thing to worry about the display - is the black colour normal there? Because I watched reviews on youtube. Black colour was natural only in the middle of the display. On the bottom and on the top - it was a little lighter with blue tone. Is it such in real life?

About RAM - I don't worry about this, because I always can change it=) You gave me advise - to buy Dell XPS. I have alreydy thought about it. But the price of XPS = $1700 and Studio = $1300. The difference is very big.

I also thought about Wi-Fi N. But in Ukraine we don't have Studio and XPS with Wi-Fi N. And it seems to be unreasonable now, because Wi-Fi is not very popular in our city))

If you're a heavy photoshop user, as I am, get the WUXGA CCFL screen, it's £100 more than the base model, but you have to call and ask for it because as far as UK online sales are concerned, it's not listed in the 15" options (only the 17). I say this because the highest resolution you can go with on the WLED screen is 1440x900, the WUXGA goes up to 1920x1200.

I'm working with images up to 60 megapixels, so I need all the resolution and sharpness I can get. When I looked at 1440x900 on the website I was a little disappointed, but I was offered the WUXGA over the phone (but only found out today its true advantage).

got my 1535 a week back and have been facing problems. Guessing it might be with 64bit vista.

the messengers when logged in (yahoo or google talk) my machine gets hung. When I try to copy data from the memory card, I get the blue screen which says hardware malfunction, please contact your hardware vendor.

I took it back to best buy and they said that it is some thing related to 64bit drivers.

has anyone else faced this issue? I am not ready to return the laptop but fix this issue. I find 1535 to be pretty neat.

Please mail back asap. Itz kindda irritating when you can't use any of the IM to chat and also BSOD when copying data from the memory cards.

Although the thread I'm linking to relates to a studio 17, the drivers mentioned are not machine specific. Instead they are Vista 64 related. One of the posts in that thread (near the end I think) has a mention of the driver you need for the MMC card port

    Hope that helps

The biggest problem that I have with my Studio 1535 is how to bring it back from hibernate or sleep. I have tried everything and nothing works.
Please if anyone can help !!!!!
