So I detailed my experience with the hard drive clicking in my blog post here, and I recorded a video to demonstrate the sounds here. Has anyone else experienced hard drive clicking in their Dell Studios? This isn't so loud that it's clearly a sign of HD failure, but it's not so quiet that I feel that I can blow it off and not worry about it. Any thoughts or tips?

My last two seagate drives have been this noisy yet been perfectly fine in terms of zero data corruption etc. I switched to WD and have never heard a peep since.

I called Dell and barely even began describing the problem to them before they told me they'd ship me a new drive. This is fine and all, but I actually have on desire for them to blow money on shipping if this is in fact a normal characteristic of a Seagate drive. It sounds like it might be, but I guess I'll find out when I replace the drive this week. Thanks, fragilexx. (Also, is your nickname intentionally medical?)

The nickname came about as me and my previous girlfriend split up; she was a little delicate and would burst into tears at any moment. I felt awful, but such is life. Literally I was just choosing a nickname at another site as she called, and the name just sprung to mind, Fragile (as in that she was) and XX (as in chromosomes). I don't even know why I stuck with it, I mean it really has nothing to do with me, but there you go ;o)
Anyway, back to topic. Really suprised that Dell are sending you out a new HDD at this stage, but then I guess magnetic storage is so cheap nowadays anyway. I think you'll find the next drive will make just as much noise to be honest, but we'll see. When I listened to your recording, it didn't sound like anything to worry about particularly. The noise you have to worry about are on the following pages:
