I'm deciding between the Studio 15/17 and the Studio XPS16. One thing I don't like about the Studio XPS16 is that it comes with the glossy screen which reflects light and makes it tough to see in bright light conditions.

Does the Studio 15 come with a non-glossy screen? Or is it the same as Studio XPS16?

I'm fairly certain all Dell consumer laptops have glossy displays now. The Studio 15 and 17 might not have the glass covered E2E stuff that the 1640 has, but they definitely have glossy displays. You'll need to get a Latitude or Precision (maybe a Vostro?) if you want matte displays.

Agreed, the consumer line notebooks come with glossy displays (often referred to by Dell as TrueLife). The Studio XPS 16 featured edge to edge glass which can cause more reflections than non edge to edge which is on both the Studio 15 and 17. However, reflections will still be visible.

The Lattitudes, Precisions and Vostros (the business lines) typically have matte displays. However it is a bit of a trade off - the glossy displays normal have better colour reproduction, but of course the matte displays win out in bright sunlight.

    Thanks. This is helpful.

I'm thinking the XPS16 might be a little too much computer than I need, and it's about $200 more than the Studio 17. Not sure whether I want 17 or 15 inch screen, but that's another thread.

With the new LED back light its so bright that the glossy is not a problem in day light. I just used this outside today. :)
