I just went to the Dell US site to configure a 15 Studio laptop and notice when you go to configure the laptop the only choice for graphics is the integrated 4500HD! Bah. I don't want to have to go to a 17!

Really? I'll go try again. Perhaps a momentary glitch.

edit: I'm still only seeing GMA4500HD option. Weird!

Which version of the studio are you choosing? Good, better, or best? Sometimes Dell cuts it off so you have to buy stuff you don't need in order to get the thing you want...

Discrete graphics does look to be gone from video options for the time being. Interesting in that I was able to configure an ATI card in a Studio 15 a few hours ago.

I'm pretty disappointed that they're not offering the 1537 any longer. I may have to get a replacement system for this 1535, but I don't want it to be a 1555.

I'm sure the removal of the ATi graphics option is either unintentional or temporary. I don't think Dell is stupid enough to suddenly discontinue all dedicated graphics card options for the entire Studio 15 series.
Exactly. That, and the media buttons, even if they are glitchy.

All I want is the 16:10 display and chassis of the old 1535/1537 including the media buttons and non-retarded port placement, with the updated Radeon 4570 instead of 3450.

    7:28:56 PM BE_XPS_Rep_Paulina Hi Nicholas :)
    7:28:59 PM ME hello
7:29:17 PM ME i had a question about the Studio 1555 laptop
7:29:20 PM ME can you help me with that?
    7:30:41 PM BE_XPS_Rep_Paulina Go ahead.
7:31:23 PM ME i was going to make a purchase today but when i got home to configure the laptop, i noticed that the dedicated graphics solutions were removed as an upgrade option
7:31:47 PM ME the only choice available is the Intel 4500MHD
7:31:50 PM ME can you tell me why?
7:32:26 PM BE_XPS_Rep_Paulina Can you provide me the link please so I can check?

7:32:56 PM BE_XPS_Rep_Paulina By the way, there has been several instances where chats get disconnected due to some online connection errors, if this happens, I want to make sure I can get back to you. What is the best phone number that I may be able to reach you?
7:33:18 PM ME will the number be used for solicitation?
7:33:46 PM BE_XPS_Rep_Paulina No, it will not.
    7:33:56 PM ME ***REMOVED***
    7:34:37 PM BE_XPS_Rep_Paulina Thank you.
7:34:55 PM ME just FYI - the video card upgrade options 256MB and 512MB Radeon 4570 were available only a few hours ago today
7:36:02 PM BE_XPS_Rep_Paulina May I know what is the starting price of the package that would you like to purchase?
7:36:15 PM ME doesn't matter, pick anyone of them
7:36:28 PM ME the only option available is the onboard video solution
7:40:17 PM BE_XPS_Rep_Paulina Thanks for patiently waiting.
    7:40:44 PM ME no problem
7:42:17 PM BE_XPS_Rep_Paulina This Studio 15 with 15.6" display does not have the option for a dedicated video card. The one we have before that offer it is the Studio 15 with 15.4" display.
7:42:28 PM ME yes it does
7:42:31 PM ME i was looking at it today
7:42:56 PM ME the 1555 had the option to upgrade to a 256MB or 512MB Radeion 4570
7:44:41 PM ME i'm not debating on whether or not the option was there, i know it was. I just want to know why it was removed only hours ago, today.
7:45:17 PM BE_XPS_Rep_Paulina Unfortunately, it is not option on the system now Nicholas, and we do not carry information why. If you want to have a dedicated video card, you can check our Studio 17 or the Studio XPS instead.
7:45:30 PM ME and this is why Dell fails.
    7:45:32 PM ME good bye
7:45:34 PM System The session has ended!

I would assume it's just a website issue of some sort. I remember a couple weeks ago, thanks to a similar issue, on Lenovo's website, changing from dedicated to Intel integrated graphics cost $9,000 dollars.

I don't think the sales rep you talked to knows any more than you do.

Ha! Almost identical to my "chat" asking why the wxga+ option had suddenly been dropped from the 1537 in UK. What is the point of having these chat agents who can't tell you any more than you are already seeing on screen?
Of course my chat ended with "can I halp you with anything else today?" - as if they helped me with the first issue!

i wasn't harassing the agent. the agent told me that it wasn't an option on the model and i said hours before using their chat service, it was. why aren't sales agents informed of changes like this?
and yes, i wrote "good bye" instead of "goodbye".
    counter fail.

and the radeon cards still aren't available...

    This is so retarded!
I had a cart customized with the ATI Radeon 4570 512MB VRAM card the first day the Studios were available in the USA. Today I check and see it's automatically changed to the integrated media accelerator 4500. LAME!

If this isn't some little glitch, Dell is loosing a first-time customer now.

My guess is ATI/AMD cannot supply enough GPU's to Dell. We'll probably see it offered again once production of the Radeon 4570 ramps up.

Even if they were temporarily out of parts, they would normally still offer the option and include the usual notice, like "May delay your Studio 15 ship date."

You can still order one with the graphics card using an EPP discount. You might want to try calling them up or using the "Chat" option and seeing what they have to say.

The Studio 15 that the EPP section offers is the older model, with the older graphics card (the Radeon Mobility 3450). It's not the newer model of the Studio 15, the 1555, which should offer the Radeon Mobility 4570.

It also came down to Asus vs Dell for me. In the end, because I wanted dedicated graphics for casual gaming, I chose the Studio 15 with the weaker 4570 (compared to the Asus Geforce offerings) because the Studio 15 had much better battery life. That's even before upgrading to a 9-cell.

Actually, it's not. You might be using an EPP section for your school/whatever with an older model, but if you browse Dell's entire catalog with an EPP discount, and go to the Studio 15 section, you can still order one with the HD 4570. Base models are identical to the non-EPP studio section, except some have Vista 32 instead of 64 (Though one or two options still have Vista 64), and you can select the 4570 as an upgrade option, not a default on any model.

Copied directly from the Studio 15 video page, too lazy to take a screen shot. If you continue to doubt me, up to you, but I'd still advise contacting them directly if you're interested in a Studio 1555 with discrete graphics:

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD [Included in Price]
256MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570 [add $75 or $2/month1]
May delay your Studio 15 ship date
512MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570 [add $125 or $4/month1]
May delay your Studio 15 ship date

Another theory... maybe now that some benchmarks are out showing that the 4570 actually isn't much of an improvement over the 3450... Dell is pulling the 4570 and waiting for the more powerful Radeon 4670.

Boy that would tick me off because I've already ordered mine with the 4570!

Then again... unlikely... since a Studio 15 with 4670 would blow away the Studio XPS!

I highly doubt that. They wouldn't pull all options for dedicated graphics and then offer a better one this early into the model's availability.
I would wait if I were you. I'm certain the option will return soon enough, considering it's still there in all the other countries that offer the 1555. My Studio 1535 with the older 3450 graphics card runs nice and cool (CPU idling at 32 degrees right now), and I keep this thing on my lap often. And while the fan is off, this thing is dead silent. I mean, I have to be in a silent room with my ear next to the laptop to hear a damn thing. The hard drive is like a ninja, and I'm not even using HDD Acoustic Mode. And even when the fan comes on, if there's any background noise beyond a whisper, you could never tell.

Well the HD4570 is somewhat of an improvement over the HD3450, just not a huge one since they're still both lower end dedicated GPUs. The Studio is mostly a budget version of the larger multimedia SXPS.

If anything, the HD4670 would go into the SXPS later this year maybe, but I'm not expecting it on the Studio 15, but who knows >.>

It's still an option in Canada. In fact they updated the Canadian version a fair bit. I've only had mine for 35 days and right now I could get one very similar (a little better actually) for $200 less. Ouch!

It wasn't that I doubted you. I just wasn't seeing what you were seeing. ;)

Interesting, if I choose the Studio 15 from the EPP portal page, the option for the 4570 isn't there. But if I browse down to the Studio 15 from the menu links, it shows up fine. How very odd.

Thanks for helping me find that. I've been looking for an option to order the Studio 15 with the 4570. Although now you've made things worse for me. Now I have to debate if I want to keep my existing order for the Studio XPS 13 with the Hybrid SLI functionality, or if I want the Studio 15 with the 4570 instead. :)

I haven't received it yet. I ordered it last week but it still hasn't shipped yet. :(

Hey guys it looks like they added new designs to the Studio 15 and they REINSTATED DEDICATED GRAPHICS ON THE USA SITE now it has up to 512MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570 like some people had been discussing.
