I spoke to Dell India today and received a quote from them regarding Studio 15...but surprisingly they say that they don't have drivers for XP/Linux...I know that the laptop comes with Vista Premium but I thought I could always change it later if I wanted to...whats this weird thing about not providing drivers for other OS?

Could someone from India who's got Studio 15 help me out?

PS - I know that some other countries might have drivers for the Studio 15 for XP and Linux...but a Dell India Rep (after confirming from the manager supervising him) told me that they cant help me with it
He says "You can use XP/Linux but you'll have to arrange for the drivers yourself"

I am not from India, but the Studio 15 is indeed not supported under XP. Linux drivers should not be a concern as they come built-in with whatever distribution you're using, but XP is currently being phased out by Microsoft and is on its last legs. Although support ends in 2014 (a decision probably made for businesses, the majority of which haven't touched Vista), no more XP licenses are being sold. After all, Microsoft has already released Vista and is working to release 7.

i read somewhere that u have to tweak a small thing in the bios in order to install XP on a dell studio 1535. u have to change hdd attributes from ICH to ATA. then only u can install xp. for broadcom wifi drivers, broadcom has released new drivers for its 43xx chip sets. u can use them other wise ndiswrapper will do.

You could also just install AHCI drivers when you're installing XP, so you don't have to use ATA mode, which lowers performance. You can slipstream them onto an XP installation disk using nvlite.
