    Hi there,

Dell technical support in the UK is baffling to say the least so I come here in need of help.

I have a dell studio 15 laptop which I purchased last summer running on Windows Vista Ultimate (at the moment). Quite frequently I use the laptop with my samsung 32 inch 720p television set. I can get the output to appear full screen on the tv when it is a secondary monitor and extended at a resolution of 1280x720 but as soon as I close the lid or try to use that TV as the primary display small black borders appear on the sides (left and right0 of the TV, it is perfectly usable but it's just an annoyance that it is not utilizing the full screen.

Any help to resolve this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Try setting your resolution to 1366x768 if that's an option in your display settings. That's the resolution used by most 720p displays.

    Tried all resolutions already.

When using the TV as an extended display the only resolution that seems to fill the screen is 1280x720p.

But when using the tv as the primary monitor none of the resolutions seem to fill the entire screen.

    I know the problem now.

I opened up the ATI catalyst control centre and changed the scaling option under the advanced setting for my hdmi connection when I have the TV functioning as the primary monitor.

It doesn't allow me to change the scaling options when the resolution is set at 1360x768 but only allows me to do so when set at 1280x720.

Not ideal but finally I get full screen output when using my TV as a primary display.
