    Dell Studio 15 cover color

    Hello! Anyone know whether a friend and I can swap out our colored back covers on our identical Dell Studio 15s?

    Certainly. You have to remove the display assembly from the hinges, which involves removing the speaker grille and all the antenna wires and stuff. Then you'll have to disassemble the display unit to separate the lid from the display panel and bezel, etc. Dell's online Service Manual for the Studio 15 (whichever model you have, 1535, 1536, 1537 or 1555) should show you exactly how to do that.

    If they are otherwise identical, wouldn't it be simpler just to swap laptops? :D

    I'm assuming specs and such aren't identical, otherwise that would make sense.

    JoleneG, if you and your friend both have the same resolution displays, make it easier on yourselves; just swap your entire display assemblies and don't bother separating the display panels and lids.

    Can these be bought online?I'd quite like to change mine at some point in the future,Or would it only be dead machines that have been sold as spares?

    You can check at places like parts-people.com, resaleremarketing.net (both excellent Dell parts dealers), or maybe eBay.
