Just got back from Staples and they've got the new Dell Studio 15 for $699. The specs for the laptop are the same as the "Better" specs on Dell's website. Currently the laptop isn't in their store (at least my location) but you can order the laptop from their store and have it within a few days (shipped to their store).
They've already got the Dell Studio 17 on their website for $849. All great deals, definitely cheaper than even Dell themselves.

i just checked staples.com and they dont have the dell studio 15 yet online. the 17 is available though for 849.98.

Can I ask them to order one with the 1440x900 LED screen?

Just got in from staples, I asked about ordering a different screen. It comes with 1200x800, I was told you can not make any changes. Told me if you want to change anything you have to go to Dell.com. The laptop looks really nice. I have a 1420 but would definitely consider this if I were to go up to a 15" screen.
Hope this helps -
philly dog, thank you very much. I don't why all retails don't carry any 15.4" notebook with higher resolution than 1280x800.

Very cool looking laptop -
what are the specs of the studio 15 at staples?

take advantage of the special pricing(which ends today, at 9:00PM CT).
My local stores only carry red, but will special-order in any of the
available colors. How can you beat this for $699?

Just pulled the trigger on the Studio 15 for $699 plus tax, and free
shipping. Ordered it in blue(should look great). This has to be one of the
best laptop deals going.

I'm very happy with mine, I bought it a few days ago. I've got a 24" LCD that I use with my desktop so I don't really care about my resolution on a laptop... $700 was a fantastic deal for this laptop.
-
the store had some flex in it.
I think the touchpad is great. The texture really makes a difference.
I checked out the new Hp dv5z and did not like the touchpad at all. It
had a very smooth, shiny, surface, which made my finger stick.
I think I'll be happy with my Studio. Can't wait to pick it up.

Is it already dead or what? Staples doesn't have Studio 15 on their website, and the price for 17 is $950.

I went to my local Staples and found that it was the last day of
the sale.

I got the Staples $699 last night in Midnight Blue.
From the looks of it, it is the $899 deal at Dell.com for less. The Staples deal has 4gig too so it would cost $949 online if I'm not mistaken.
Staples and Best Buy were next door to each other so I got a chance to A/B. the deal.
First, I think the Studio is right in the middle of Inspiron and XPS in terms of build quality. I have the 1525 too and that thing seems cheap after using the Studio for 8 hours straight. The studio does look like a plastic XPS to me. Components are straight from the Inspiron line I think. XPS uses synaptics and Studio uses Alps for the mouse. They cut corners there. The keyboard seems slightly better than the inspiron. The flex mentioned in the forum doesn't bother me. I type all day long on my laptops and this keyboard seems as good if not better than the 1525s. Same goes for the touchpad.
The $100 dollar price difference to me is all about the video card and the CPU. T8100 vs 5750. Not much of a performance speed difference to me. Yes, there is more cache, runs a little cooler and 100mhz differential, but both are plenty fast. The x3100 vs 3450 was a no brainer. Neither are blazers but at least the 3450 can play decent FPS although in low res.
My 1525 runs cooler but the Studio 15 isn't bad at all. I almost bought another toshiba but the touchpad was very hot. Maybe going x3100 would help but the 3450 has some good power saving features that should negate the heat.
The biggest factor...Staples is NOT Best Buy. Staples does a 14 day return without a 15% hit. Staples uses Dells support structure too instead of Geek Squad. -
Interestingly, Staples only has ONE Dell laptop online...the Inspiron 1720. No more Studios...
