I just got dell studio 15 (midnite blue color) and i'm having some issues:
1. My friend has the same laptop and he has these swirling lines on the palmrest but my laptop doesn't have that. My laptop also doesn't have the vertical/horizontal scroll lines on the mouse touchpad, while my friend does.
How come I don't have that?
2. When I turn on my studio 15, the media touch buttons don't work but the cd eject button lights up and stays up for a while, and the cd drive ejects a few times. What's going on there?
3. I didn't receive the media remote while my friend got his. Do we have to order that separately?
Thanks!
Here are the specs:
T5750 processor, 3gb ram, 250 hard drive, intel graphics, fingerprint reader, camera.

Welcome to NBR.

remote is an optional feature.
concerning the topo look, i would call them. -

The later studios phase out the graphite pattern. When I got my studio, I had the pattern, but after my fingerprint reader broke and they sent me the new palm rest, there is no longer a pattern. Dell also does not offer the pattern on the lids which used to match the pattern on the palm rests anymore. It's alright, don't worry. Also, like the above poster said, try updating your bios. Just download it and plug in your studio, then double click it. It'll do everything automatically after that. As for the media remote, you have to order it for 15$ in another section while you're building your computer. If you didn't order it under accessories, you won't get it.

thanks for all the answers..
@Bog: i have the latest bios (A05). at least that what it says, when i turn on the machine.
i can live without the remote and the topo lines...was just wondering why i didn't have those. not a big deal.
would like to know about a fix for the cd eject issue if anyone has any ideas? -
Interesting, there is a specific fix in the A05 BIOS that should solve the problem... are you running 64-bit Vista? -

I'd ask dell technical support. Try going over the issues with them. Your service tag is on the underside of your laptop. Go here http://support.dell.com/support/top...t/chat/en/hardware_chat?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs
Put in your service tag, and wait for a representative to get to you. They've been very helpful in my experiences. -
@Bog: i do have 64-bit vista home premium but 3gb ram.
@FatMangosLAWL: i had other problems with this laptop as well so dell is sending a new one. hopefully that one will be ok.
i have one more question. i read about keyboard flex in this laptop but i don't experience that. i do see that my keyboard is kinda bulging from the middle. is that normal for this model? IMO, keyboard should be completely flat.
i feel that this laptop has been dropped before it was delivered to my house, because the first couple of times i started it up, i got the blue screen of death and i called dell and they will replace it. it still fails to start up once in a while.
just wondering about the keyboard bulging. -
The Studio does have minor keyboard flex over the slot-loading optical drive; the rest of the keyboard is fairly solid.

I do not have the laptop with me, however I will check it at a later point in time. Your laptop may just have a minor defect.

You may want to try taking the keyboard out and bending it a little to make it flat. Sometimes they put in keyboards sloppily, so it's not perfectly flat. My studio's is fine, but my old hp dv2819nr used to have that, so I took it out, loosened the screws so they didn't pull down as much, and bent the keyboard tray a little to make it more flat. Worked perfectly.

The keyboard on my Studio appears to be fitted perfectly. I would follow FatMango's advice, it sounds promising. Sometimes the screws securing the keyboard from underneath end up pushing the keyboard up instead of securing it to the chassis.
