    Hi,

I just came from Best Buy and liked the studio 15 except for the keyboard flex.
I wanted to know if this can be remedied and if it's a widespread issue.

I found the 1525's keyboard to be much better.

Mine has no flex during usage, and I have to press pretty had for anything to budge at all.

Mine is just squashy in the middle. Nothing to annoy me though.

I've read so many things about this supposedly horrible keyboard flex in the Studio series notebooks, and honestly, I just don't see it. Sure, the keyboard will give a little if I push hard enough to bend it, but to do that I have to press several times harder than I normally would for typing. It doesn't flex at all unless I force it to.

A number of people have flex on their studios, myself included. Like jrinco said, remove the keyboard as sometimes the cables underneath the keyboard are not seated properly or you may find an example of the fine QC Dell is known for.

Maybe not the most elegant fix but I hated the feel of keyboard so much that I did this:
    1. Took the thin metal casing off of an old tape deck.
    2. Measured keyboard and traced a slightly smaller rectangle on casing.
    3. Cut the rectangle out of the case with dremel.
    4. Taped over sharp edges with masking tape.
    5. Put double stick tape on the bottom of the rectangle.
    6. Placed rectangle underneath keyboard.
And there you go. I'm typing this with a crudely cut metal shank in the center of my new computer. And it feels MUCH better.

I find the studio keyboards on the few units we tested to be solid. If you want to see keyboard flex at its worst check out a Dell Inspiron 8500/8600.
