For the US site ... I notice the delay for the 1080P monitors has snuck back up to 13 days again. It had been at 4 days for the past 3 or 4 days.

    Grrrr ...

Yes, I've noticed the giant cursor appearing too. Quite funny really and intimidating.

I wiped my laptop so I can only imagine it's the Dell quickset tools (or whatever it's called - the one that shows the volume/wireless onscreen display items) that is interfering. I just ignore it.

It's a well known problem with ati graphics on some systems, no solution other than restart, ati refused to fix the issue.

Unfortunately if the EDD is going to change it won't happen until you reach the original EDD, and it has not shipped. The CSRs have no way to tell you if the EDD is going to be missed...

I noticed the delay time for the 1080P monitors has dropped to 1 day - US site!

(Yesterday it jumped to 13 days.)

So good news ... hopefully it stays down ...

    Im In the UK

    I Purchased a 1558 With These specs:
    Intel Core i5 430M
    4GB DDR3
    500GB SAMSUNG SATA2 5400RPM
    ATI 4570 512MB
    DVDRW 8x SL
    1366X768 Res LED Backlit Screen

Purchased from an ebay reseller at £559.99, RRP at time was £749.99

I then purchased a WWAN Card (Internal Mobile Broadband)and installed it £25.99

I then Purchased Backlit Keyboard £31.97

I really want to source a 1080p Screen as the one i bought didnt have upgrade options. (where are the parts!)

I would also like to find out whether i could install a Core i7 - 720QM and what kind of performance increases to expect.

I really like the laptop so much im looking around the net for a 128GB SSD (need to find a seller with stock of G - Skill Falcon II - around £240)

It is a nice laptop i just wish i was in the US as i would definitely have put it through some colorware treatment for full gloss stealth black with maybe white or red accents, or maybe a two tone red and black?

It runs all my highly CPU/GPU intensive apps including Solidworks and 3DS Max.

It even runs Crysis (not smoothly but bearable)

On low Power setting i can usually get 2 hours of browsing and watching youtube/browsing forums etc with no power cable and more importantly, no stupid internet dongle, as its all internal!

Also does anyone know if i can get a 128GB internal PCi Express SSD to replace the Wifi, then get a External PCi Express Wifi Card that doesnt Protrude from the Chassis?

Just ordered the following from the Outlet.

    Studio 15 1558
    Processor: Intel Core i3-330M Processor (2.13GHz, 4Threads, 3M cache)
    Dual In-line Memory Module,4GB,1333MHZ
    500 G SATA 7,200 RPM
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator HD, 720P
Liquid Crystal Display,15.6 High Definition,UMA,LG Philips LCD
    back lit KB
    Web cam
    8X double sided DVD
    Windows Home Premium, 64 bit
    9 Cell battery

With the coupon it came to $415+tax. Free shipping.

However, I have a concern now. On the Dell forum there are numerous complaints about it over heating right out of the box during the setup. Supposedly the A04 BIOS was the fix. It not fix them all though. These complaints were posted in March. Anyone have any info about this?

    Thanks in advance.

I appreciate you checking. I am still a bit concerned about the over heating issue and hopefully mine will be fine. I'll check what BIOS version it is as soon as I get it.

    Thanks again.

I will probably load up TF2 on it and try it out this weekend. If it can play games without heat problems then I'd say it should be ok for anything.

    Ripped off dude.. ripped off.

There are no problems with the 1558. I think only an unlucky few have issues; the majority you don't even hear of. I'm one of the majority, and I suggest a 1558. See my spec, it's flawless. Absolutely flawless. Haven't even had a minor hiccup on my system yet. No crashes, no lag, no incompatibility issues. My laptop stays on for 48 hours at a time usually with about 6 hours off-time every 2 days. Temperatures are 48-54 degrees celsius most of the time. I don't game. I'm happy.

I noticed on my Outlet order I have a 9 cell. I read in this thread it raises it up an inch. But does it stick out? If so, how much?

    Edit: Never mind...Googled it.

Doesn't stick out. It just elevates the rear which is perfect for increased ventilation. The rear is around 6cm whereas the front is around 3cm.

Makes it real difficult to get a sleeve for it!

Looked at some images and it looks like it does stick out some. Unless they were not current images? So it's flush then?

Raising it up is fine and as you said it helps ventilate it.

Here's some pictures I just took. The battery moulds into the back of the laptop seamlessly and there is no additional poking out caused by the 9 cell.

    It's all underneath.

how heavy is the laptop? Do you know how much the 9 vs 6 cell add to the weight?

1558 is supposed to start T 5.5 pounds but I am guessing with options and 9 cell it is more like 6.5 pounds.

iafzal, it's difficult to say as I've only had the 9 cell battery. I don't have anything accurate to weigh it. Plus, I may get some weird looks if I pop it onto the bathroom scales! My family think I'm loopy enough as it is!!

Right, here's a pic of the laptop on top of a set of kitchen scales. No cables attached.

The scale picture is just too funny!

I noticed the delay on the screens have been completely removed today (US Site). It appears they have caught up on their LCDs for these guys.

There still is a delay on their video cards though - 3 Days.

I am secretly hoping that my laptop gets in my hands prior to the end of April ... we'll see.

The weight of a studio laptop in general is less than that of a typical 15 inc laptop. Not sure why, but it's relatively light. Picking mine up now I'd say is about 2.5kg-ish.

I cancelled this order and placed another one OVER THE PHONE. http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=456885

Now, same configuration, but it came down to 1039.23 w/free next business day shipping. Original EDD was 4/29, and now it's 5/4. Sales rep told me she'd put this on "Manager Special" whatever that means, so they will try to get this delivered before May.

With warranty upgrades, it seems like Dell Home is offering better pricing than EPP, but I'll just settle with 1-yr basic. My Inspiron E1505 is 3 years old but still up and running really well (bought this with 1-yr basic as well).

I just hope not to get distracted by this new machine during my finals in mid-May... :p

Excellent choice! I had one of these kits on my old MacBook Pro. It is very nice. In fact, you've reminded me I want one of these too! Look at your invoice at the restore DVD and see what model number you have... 1537 or 1557 or 1558 etc.

I got an unlocked one from hong kong, prices range from £25 to £35

    Seller is notebookelite

Just Lifted underside panel, removed aerial cover and clipped that into place and installed software. Only thing missing was motherboard screw to hold it down.

Took a while to find correct driver, but its running quickly now, way faster than old dongle, and so much more convenient!

How did you manage to get VAT Refund? Via Business account or personal?

Yes i wondered about that but 1gb of memory would be utilised in most cases, and the bandwidth limitation would render it useless.

I still use my XPS 420 Desktop for Renders and Gaming,

Compared to my Mini 9, it's going to be very heavy.

I may get a 6 cell too as I am mostly hooked up to AC power.

Btw, my notebook shipped today and will be here on Wednesday.

I have bought my studio 1558 from ebay seller that is re-seller and have asked them for a VAT refund form and the receipt (invoice).
when i left the UK, I had applied for a VAT refund that was made by the seller later.

i have studio 1558. but on zagg website they have option for studio 15 or studio 1537. and i wonder which one i have to choose?
