Anyone dared update to A09 yet?

I think I'll hold off until I hear a few opinions on it.

Hey guys, Im so surprised almost everyone is getting the 1080p full hd screen. I mean there are many HD tv's 32" that use 720p.

Can it really make a worthwhile difference with a 15" screen?!

Wish I'd got a 1080 screen now, things are too cramped on the 720 one for me.

I think it just depends on people's perspective I'm actually fine with 720 resolution and I don't have blue-ray so it would be useless for me to get 1080p

The laptop spec im looking at is..

    i5 430m
    720p screen
    500gb 7200
    blu-ray player
    4570 radeon hd
    4gb ram

im hoping that will be good enough for a fairly good blu ray experience!

Has anyone elase been having a problem with the none of the usb slots working after sleep/resume cycle with BIOS A08?

I just flashed A09 with no probs, hope that solves this problem.

How do you go about reporting these problems to Dell, i don't really want to ring them up, is there somewhere on their website to report problems with BIOS?

I ordered a 1558 on the 23rd and got the email from dell saying it had been shipped on the 25th and it gives me an option to track it
It then takes me to a blank Walsh western track page. Any idea how I can track it?

Makes a huge difference. My sister went with the 720p and i got the 1080p. Probably the most worthwhile upgrade they offer on that site. My eyes feel so much more relaxed after using my laptop than my desktop pc (old school monitor capped at 1280x1024).

I agree, the 1080p screen is the best upgrade offered for this laptop!
Great screen and amazing viewing angles!!

That, and the backlit keyboard are my two favorite things about my laptop :)

I strongly disagree, for web browsing the 1080p is horrible, everything is too small and video on YouTube is so tiny you barely can see anything.

There is a very easy fix for this. Just rest two fingers on the track pad and move them apart and your web page will get bigger. You can also move your fingers together, like you are pinching something, to make the page smaller. I hope this helps.

Using the expand or shrink method allows you to customize each web page to your liking and it remembers that size when you return to that page. Changing the dpi changes everything.

That's extremely subjective. I find I can't fit enough info in 720p and constantly zoom out every page to read side by side.

Get a backlit kb from ebay and install it using Dell service manual. Here you go: Documentation Takes less than 5 minutes to do it. All you need is a screw driver.

Hope you know Ctrl + plus key (+) to Zoom-in with your favorite browser. Also hope you know there is a setting called DPI setting on OS display setting. In a >15" laptop full hd is essential for better screen real estate. 1366x768 resolution sucks in a >15" laptop and a deal breaker.

Has anybody experienced any problems after sleep and resume???

When I resume after sleep, the discharge rate seems to be higher. this I have observed using everest ultimate

In normal circumstances, the power consumption is 1200mw(sic)(as reported by everest but it should be 12000) while after resume it seems to be around 1500

    I am on bios a06

    Anybody, who could confirm??

ANother thing, charging seems to stall after hitting 80% and gradually charge rate drops from 2800 mw to 300mw

Hi, I have a Studio 1558 and am looking to upgrade my wireless card. It came with a Dell Wireless 1397 Mini Card, and I want to upgrade to one that is n-compatible.

I have been looking at the Intel Wifi Link 5300 which looks quite good. This one works with my laptop right? Also, are there any other good, fairly cheap wireless cards that you would recommend?

One last thing, where is the wireless card located on the laptop and is it easy to upgrade?

    Thanks

EDIT: Another thing I've just noticed is that there is a half minicard and a normal minicard, which one do I want?

I got a 720p display on 1558 and I love it. If I came from a laptop that has a 1080p, I may have been disappointed. I have been taught that 1080p on anything smaller than a 37" is just overkill. But to each their own, right?

Right. All depends on how your eyes were "trained." For me, I am too used to the 1080 resolution.

Thanks, I think I'll go for the 5300. Do I just have to unscrew the bottom panel to gain access to it?

It's more the increased signal strength that I want. On an old Studio 1555 I had, it had the 5300 on it which had better range. (and then I spilt orange juice on it and insurance gave me another one)

I forget how many antennas my 1558 had, but the 5300 card requires 3 antennas and you will waste it if you don't use all 3 antennas. Make sure you got 3 antennas before you pull the trigger, otherwise go for the 6200.

Well when I bought a 1555 a year ago, it came with the 5300 card so I assume it would fit the 1558 as well. Hopefully.

For the first time I kinda regret going for my Dell so early, just saw a Vaio E Series for £570 with i5, Blu-ray writer, 6GB RAM, ATI 5650, 1080p screen and a 500GB HDD. :(

Yeah I have, no problems here.

i7 Processor and 8GB ram have my computer moving through the most demanding processes like a hot knife through butter.

    I love this thing.

My only gripe is that the glossy finish around the keyboard seems to get fine scratches when I try to wipe it with a microfiber cloth.

    Hi all,

Just wondering, I got my Dell Studio 1558 in February...

I had the blue-screen problem previously like 2-3months ago, and its all alright now. It fixed by itself.

Anyway, I tried going to Dell support to download all the latest drivers (there's 35 new drivers! lol). But after I click all 35 drivers, i was asked to download "Dell Driver Download Manager".. So I downloaded it.. Then, the chosen 35 drivers, got 'unticked'. So I chose them again, click download, THEN i was asked to download the Dell Driver download manager again.

Can anyone tell me what's wrong?

    Btw, I'm new here.. :)
