The Dell Studio 15 "best" option now has only a 6-cell battery instead of the 9-cell battery. I certainly hope they ship a 9-cell with mine (I ordered when it still said 9-cell).

The only difference now is the processor which seems a bit odd...anyone else find it odd?

If Dell was to send it to me with a 6-cell, would I be able to have a service person come to my house and change it to a 9-cell? I don't think this should be a problem because I "purchased" the laptop with a 9-cell and I don't think it would be legal to downgrade my laptop after I paid, but it is Dell and from reading these forums about the production and support of Dell I am a bit worried.

If I remember correctly, there was also a $50 price drop on the page where you can either choose the 15 or the 17. The price drop was on the 15 only though. Anyone else catch this?

you don't need a service person to change the battery. It's like a normal laptop battery, you just click it out and back in.

If I remember rightly, the 9 cell is actually larger and sticks out of the bottom of the laptop, raising it at an angle.

Yo- I just went to the Dell site when I read this. The 9 cell is like 169 more now. I don't remember how much extra I paid, it was a package put together by the Dell guy on the phone that beat any price configuration with the 8100 chip I could find.

I didn't pay any extra when I ordered my "best" package last week, it was still $999 with the 9-cell.

I hear you. My price was around the same, except I got the 8100 chip and the Office suite. I though it was a good deal. Even with coupons...to get the 3gig memory. a bigger hard drive and the faster chip, the inspiron was more dough and that's without the slot drive, backlit keyboard, and fingerprint reader.

I just saw a Studio 17 at staples today. I don't know why people are moaning about the build quality. it's looks fine for the price, no different than the Hp's, Acers. and Toshibas I see. If you want something better, then buy a mac pro for 2600.

Well they dropped the studio 15 price because now they dont include the baclit keyboard and the finger print reader. U have to add $25 for each of them.

Wow I'm happy I ordered mine when I did.

No backlit keyboard standard? That's a bummer. They really switched around the Studios in a matter of days. Got mine just in time. Dell better not send me any surprises

The problem is Dell is the #1 laptop distributor and they are CHEAPER than you can possibly imagine. They only buy from parts distributors that are in 3rd world countries and will never resort to American or European made parts (a la 6/9 cell batteries).

The deal you are referring to is the free color choice? Yes I'd agree that is a good deal, but still they downgraded the "best" option battery from a 9-cell to a 6-cell which I thought was a big blow.

And yes, I love my internet (Verizon FiOS) - I get my friends in Missouri, where I moved from, angry.

No, they have a new deal tonight, everything included except the bigger battery.. with a 320 hard drive, for MUCH cheaper. What the hell is it with these folks?

At least with Mac you know what the price structure is..

Just don't get mad when you find out you will have to wait a month to get your laptop :-(

Maybe mine is just taking so long because of the 9-cell battery which is so stupid...a battery holding up my laptop.

Wow. I just ordered mine minutes before the price drop took place. I'm so upset. My first experience in the windows world, and it isn't turning out very positive. calling customer support tomorrow, hopefully they cut me a break.

I ordered mine yesterday and it is supposed to ship August 4th and get here August 6th. That promotion also included free two day shipping.

You guys should definitely call dell.

I bought mine from staples with the mindset that if something better comes along I can take this one back and I'm not loosing anything. So I have been watching dell's website like a hawk since mine doesn't even have the backlit keyboard.
After dell was supposed to call me yesterday by 5pm and never called at all, I am pretty happy that everyone is calling and giving them heck about their orders because of something I found. How did they possibly win any awards other than worst automated phone tree ever?

i sent some emails this morning but no response yet.

I think the 9 cell battery was standard last week, but now they dropped that to the 6 cell but added the bigger drive and free colors.

that's how it looks to me...

You purchased a 9-cell at the time of order. That is all that matters.

Dell can't swap that without it being a "bait-and-switch" or some other nasty marketing/law term.

I don't think he is concerned about a bait and switch, he is concerned about the 9 cell battery delaying his order, if I'm understanding correctly.

No, I'm just trying to figure out what the effin deal is with the pricing... they guy just said that the 9 cell was a big issue, and also the wireless card he included was an N card that had more range than a G card which is in the new promotion with the 320HD

But yea, they holdup on the time is for the 9 cell bateries..

Looking at the current offering . . . I'd say the pricing is pretty damn good. If I wasn't so damn poor I would probably have bought one with an upgraded processor and WLED screen and called it good for 999. 3gb of Ram, 320 Gb Hd, integrated graphics, free paint job, what more could you possibly want!!!

I got an inspiron 1420 but man . . . already feeling like I should've waited just a little longer!

Then again, that pricing was based on the link provided earlier in the thread. I think I know what is going on, its called "back to school" rip-off. Along with the $1000 dollars in text books, they need your $1300 bucks for a notebook also. Cheap shots to the youth of America. Lame. Rebel!! : )

same laptop is now @ 1044 IF u start with the 899 one
if you get the 750 one and upgrade it will cost u more (1066) and for some strange reason will not be backlit or have finger print reader
