    Processors Intel® Core™ 2 Duo P8600 (2.4GHz/1066Mhz FSB/3MB cache)
Memory 4GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 at 800MHz
LCD Panel 15.6” Full High Definition (1080p) High Brightness LED Display with TrueLife™ and Camera
Video Card 512MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570
Hard Drive Speed: 250GB SATA Hard Drive (7200RPM) with Free Fall Sensor
Battery 85 WHr Lithium Ion Battery (9 cell)

here is the customized dell studio 15 that I am planning on purchasing. Could anyone tell me the battery life I would be expecting and what would be ways to improve it. Should I expect heat problems from video card/processor/harddrive/etc.?
Also, could someone tell me what the edge to edge display is exactly? Does it create more glare on the screen?

    Thank you

You are gonna be noticing a little heat issues with the gpu because dell did a bad job with the cooling solution. The edge to edge display is really nice, wish i could of got it. Its basically the screen without the display bezel. No not really it wouldnt create that much glare in the screen it would be the same.
Good luck with your new system and how much are you paying.
Oh the battery should last you about 4 hours.

My Studio 1555 with the 2.66GHz T9550, 256mb ATI HD 4570, 5400rpm hard drive and 6-cell battery doesn't get uncomfortably warm, in the little bit of time that I've used it (a few hours to run benchmarks). Battery life with the 6-cell is right on the 3-hour mark in my configuration, using the Power Saver settings (900p display @ 60% brightness).

what does edge to edge display do besides for looks?
as of now, it will cost around 860 before S&H/Tax. (with 25% off coupon)

I wish dell would offer SSDs for studio 15.

Its hard to explain, well not really its just basically for looks. Theres really no extra display feature. I would get it becuase it would make your computer look more professional and updated. Let us know how it goes. and a couple of people had heat problems with the 1555. So just be willing to apply better thermal paste and get a notebook cooler.

The edge-to-edge display doesn't really do much besides looks. I guess it protects the LCD a little better than otherwise, since it's a pane of glass over the entire display.

Are you sure the edge-to-edge display doesn't make it more reflective? It seems like the Dell equivalent of the HP "Infinity Display" which receives lots of complaints for its extreme reflective surface.

P.S. allfiredup, check your pm, will ya? :)

I am still deciding on whether or not I should get edge to edge display. My biggest concern is the glare and reflectivity. Also, how would I know if I'm getting the 1555 model? I don't think you can choose models. Also, I heard that the 1555 does not have touch sensitive media controls which I would like to have.

The other, older models have the ATI Mobility 3450 and not the newer 4570.

There have been problems with the touch sensitive media controls and it looks as if Dell decided to completely remove it and save them the trouble of fixing it.

Actually, the touch button sticking issue is easily solved with a firmware patch. But you are correct, the Studio 15 that Dell sells on their site is the new 1555 model, the 1535-1537 have been discontinued.
