I am currently waiting for my Studio to arrive - it will be my first laptop. I have been told to get a cooler for it, however I am not sure what one I need as they all seem to be designed differently - ie. some suck the air in from the bottom, some throw it out the sides, etc etc.
I was just wondering which it is the Studio does? I have tried to google this but with no luck!
Otherwise if there are any specific recommendations for budget coolers or trays for the 15 version? I know there's a big thread under accessories which I'm reading right now but recs for the specific model would be appreciated.

The Studio 15 has vents on the bottom in two places and the exhaust fan is in the left rear corner (venting out the back).
My favorite notebook cooler is one from Antec- LINK. It works great with notebooks from 14" up! -

Apologies for the stupid questions but I have never had a laptop before and don't really understand most technical things to do with it, haha -

Final question
A friend has the Zalman for his laptop and really recommends that, but after googling it it says that the Zalman takes air and blows it upwards into the laptop. Would that work with the Studio's design, or would that actually work against it and cause more problems for it? (As for the one you recommended it worked the opposite) -
I have a Studio 15 and a cheap $15 Targus Chill Mat. It also blows cool air up into the laptop rather than drawing away hot air, and it makes quite a difference. My average idle CPU temp is 33C with this thing. Before, it was around 45C.
So, whether the airflow moves up or down doesn't make a huge difference, it seems.
Of course, I've never really had heat issues with this laptop during normal use (an hour or two at a time), but I tend to leave it on for hours or overnight, so this cooling pad really does its job after all that time. -
enough to overheat the system. the temp is max 45-browsing internet and
max 45x1.5=68 playing games.
as long as mobo is under 70c, cooler is not necesary. -

My Studio 17 runs cool as a cucumber, the only warm spot I can feel is under the hard drive sometimes when its been working hard, and I have 2 hard drives in mine. I dont use a cooler on mine, and I rarely hear my fan come on , basically the Studio series run a lot cooler than previous models did.
A cooler wouldnt hurt in any way, it would definately help your laptop to run cooler, and cooler is better always. If you're in to playing a lot of games then I would recommend you get one of those coolers.
