    Dell Studio / XPS HDMI Port - passes audio as well ?

    I'm thinking of buying either one of the 15" models and will be connecting it to a LCD TV full time. Does the HDMI port on either of these machines pass audio as well as video ?

    I do not believe it does, however you can run a cable from the headphone out jack to the tv to get the sound.

    then this means if i watch blu-rays (or even dvds), i will be limited to stereo sound output ?? ... that's not very impressive. oh well ...

    YES. HDMI does pass audio on these computers. It passes AFAIK, it passes digital 5.1 channel audio (not sure about 7.1)

    Yes, HDMI does digital video and AUDIO. Thats the beauty of it over older interfaces

    For the XPS series it does. No reason to believe it would be disabled on the studio...

    Yes that's what HDMI is for, for both Audio and video. It works great on my M1530.

    As stated above HDMI does both video and audio. However to use the HDMI out for audio you have to change the audio output setting to HDMI in your media player.
