By the way, if you happen to get one or if anyones knows - Do the skins over the entire color painted surface? The rounded off top by the top of the screen and on the side edges as well? Like I mean the entire color micro stain finish. If they do I just might get one.

Hmmm... I may have to try this out. I particuraly like the "Blue Abstract" skin. Question, though. Do Dell's gift cards work for this site?

I've used skin-it twice before for my dells. Their skins are top notch and for most of the laptops that have been out a while, they have nice custom fits.

 

You wouldn't happen to know what resolution's we would need? I want to order one, but I don't want a fuzzy image because my resolution of the JPEG is too low.

How does it look when put on the laptop? Does it look pretty flush on the lid? Do any edges not fit?

Well, folks, i've never used the custom feature before. I've only ordered the pre-made designs they have so I can't speak for the customs. I did speak to a customer service rep a while ago and asked about just such a thing and I was told that the higher the resolution the better but they did not provide me with specific numbers. May want to call and inquire if they have a specific res requirement. Also, they have really strict copyright rules. So if you want your favorite MLB, NFL team etc. just be aware that they may not be able to use it. They have to have a license to use copyrighted logos. In most cases if you go to their regular site which has more than skins for dell, you can see most of what they already have.

as for the fit, I ordered two of them to go on two different inspiron e1705's. One was the night colored camo and the other a houston texans logo. Both fit perfectly. The images are clear with deep colors. The stuff they use is 3M and it's durable and really protects your laptop from scuffs and scratches. The logos are in pieces so, you know the white edges for the inspiron, you put those pieces on separate. Those you do have to really take your time and line up. If done right, you have a tiny tiny sliver of white left that is barely noticable. The main lid sticker is 1 piece. There is also the pre-made hole to expose your dell logo.

You do want to take your time and make sure your laptop is clean and you work it on from one end to the other because you can get air bubbles underneath. The adhesive is strong, it takes a bit of muscle to get it off but I've never had it damage my paint. It didn't even leave a sticky residue.

I would provide pics but unfortunately I no longer have the laptops in question.

P.S. I did have a left over empty sheet from one of my purchases so it can give you a general idea of how it was laid out and the material they used.

 

whenever these sites offer a printing surface for the M1330 (with apunch out so that the silver dell, circle, and XPS text, isn't covered then I'll run out and buy a cover. Also the silver the metal streek on the sides of the screen should be uncovered.

DeusEx, if Vostros are the same as Inspirons, shape-wise etc, wouldn't that work just as well?

 

Not sure they would fit on an inspiron 1520 all that well, and even if they did the yellow color of mine might offset how nice a decal/cover would look.

I liked the sheet music one from decal girl, but I didnt trust their "one size fits all" idealism.

As soon as someone with a Vostro/Inspiron can confirm that it covers the entire painted surface of the lid, I'm so ordering/making one.

Let me explain better, I want it to cover the ENTIRE blue paint on my lid, sides and all. If it does, awesome, if it doesn't..BOOO

I'd like to know if it covers the center 'dell' icon on the 1520's? the thing is really ugly on the inspiron notebooks, i'd love to cover it.

 

On the ones I've ordered it has come with a pre-cut hole for the dell logo. The sheet with the skin has a red "X" with a circle around it. I guess if you really wanted to cover it, you could use that. Otherwise they may sell a generic cut one that is one piece. Give 'em a call and see what they can do.

 

The image i want for my GF's laptop is the Big Batman logo. and with the big silver dell logo in the middle of a big black batman logo would look insane. i was thinking of trying to get a generic one like an Acer that doesn't have the hole missing. i can always get a larger one and cut it to size.

Oh, how is the image quality? for example, what res of an image would i have to use in order to get a nice res on the 15" printout?

 

Well considering this make this 'custom' when you get your own printed--now that I think about it, you should have the choice if they cut the logo out or not etc.. Basically I expect full damn control.

Cool - Anyone know if the Inspiron 1520 skins would work with the Vostro 1500?

 

I'm willing to bet they will if you get the comparable screen size. One of those skins would certainly brighten up a vostro.

 

The Vostro and Inspirons are identical, just different paint jobs.. lol

 

The material they use sticks very well. It's 3m automotive grade decal stickers. It takes a little work to get it off but it leaves no residue. Removing it did not damage the paint on my Inspiron one bit.

It's one time use. Once you tug on it pulling it off, it has pretty much lost its shape and is stretched out.

 

Hmmm, weird. If you go directly to skinit.com (not dell.skinit.com) it has the Vostro 1500 listed.

Plus use the code "smart1" and get 10% off. Not much but at least it's a few bucks. I think I'll order one for my Vostro and show you what it looks like.

I just used one of the default ones. I'm a big Detroit Red Wings fan (that's NHL hockey for all you non hockey goons), so stands to reason I got the Redwings skin.

Anyways, like goose said, PICTURES! I wanna see what these puppies look like skinned. I hope it's as flawless as the advertisement pictures look.

 

What are the skins made of? Do you think they leave fingerprints? I'd consider buying a plain black one to cover my Jet Black which leaves a few fingerprints sometimes...

 

You will see finger prints on the skin, but it will be much easier to clean it.

I'll be going on vacation for a while, so if I don't get them by christmas day (last year, volunteers @ the post office worked on christmas day), you guys won't see them any time soon!

 

Just wanted to alert everyone... I ordered mine on December 23, and it has still not arrived. If you want your skin in a timely manner I recommend paying for shipping. This UPS Mail Innovations, while free from Skinit, is a super slow shipping method. I pitched a ***** to Skinit just to let them know they should alert their customers to the extremely lengthy ship times if they choose the free shipping. Otherwise I would have paid for shipping.

Despite this, I am looking forward to my skin and hope it works out ok. I also ordered one for my iPod since shipping was free (*cough*) if your order was more than $40. It was about the same price if I ordered one for my iPod and got free shipping than if I just got one for my laptop and paid for shipping. In the end I should have just paid for shipping ... sigh.

Hi, I just checked on their site and there is no skin for the 1330 under their system tab. I just wanted to check that that means there is no custom skin for that machine? Seems weird that there would not be a skin for a popular machine that has been out for months. Anyway, if anyone knows, please post. By the way, I did check with skin it and got a very strange non committal answer that did not definatively say that they did not have the skin (weird).
