I ordered an E1705 on late Tuesday night and just got notified it is shipping Fedex overnight and being delivered Monday. Oh, and I opted for the 3-5 day free shipping option. I know I'm not alone as at least one other reported getting the free overnight upgrade too. Is Michael Dell out of town or what? :D

I wouldn't be suprised if the system automatically upgrades the shipping if there is any indication that a part would have been backordered during the manufacturing process. We do the same thing at our work, the last thing we want is for a customer to be mad because we couldn't fullfill an order in our estimated time frame and then have to wait 5biz days for ground shipping. Overnight shipping on those machines probably only costs around $20-$25 anyways, most of the $79 is handling and artificial inflation...

I ordered my E1705 also on Tuesday, Oct 31. I just got my tracking number last night (Friday). According to UPS it is supposed to be here next Tuesday Oct 7. I also selected the free ground shipping. Again, accordingly to UPS, it is being shipped via ground. So, I did not get upgraded it seems; however, it appears from the posts that I have seen that the time from ordering to recieving is a week. Thus far that is pretty consistant with my experience thus far. I will have to wait and see however as there are the horror stories out there too :) ...

Hey guys I ordered my E1505 on 10/31 because of the good deal on coupons and its being shipped standard fed ex overnight as of today. I opted for the 3-5 day but this is great guess I'm not the only one. Wonder why is dell doing this but its a plus of my part =)

Mine was shipped out this past Tuesday via Fedex Priority Overnight, delayed twice (no one available to sign Wednesday or Thursday) and finally got it yesterday. It wasn't even supposed to ship out until Yesterday. Also I got a laptop bag that was backordered. It wasn't supposed to ship out until the 17th (they added 2 wk delay to estimate) and it shipped out yesterday via DHL Ground. My laptop bag should show up on Tuesday.
