There is a lot of information and misinformation flying about regarding the AUO 335X (I think?) crappy screens that Dell has been slapping on its laptops.
Some people can't seem to get rid of them, some people claim Dell has stopped shipping them...
To try to keep those considering purchase up to date, would people who have received an Inspiron in the latter half of October or in Nov. 2007 post their screen models and a qualitative description of them? Have any AUOs come, and if so, were they the grainy model number/are they grainy?
I'll start: Ordered a 15.4" 1680x1050 on the Inspiron 1520. It is the LG model, and it is a beautiful picture. On a blackscreen, it has some light leakeage in the middle of the top and bottom of the screen, but I cannot tell at all if the screen has content. Very happy, no graininess... though the picture quality noticably degrades on the desktop if the resolution is lowered... of course?
Looks great gaming not at it's native resolution, in any case.
I hope everyone else's experience is just like mine, and hopefully this will shed some light.

makes it look like your screen is dirty sorta and you cant wipe it off. like a layer of dust on it that will not go away. you can notice it most in white backrounds it gives off almost a "glint" or makes the screen glisten sorta

does lg only make the sxga screens?
i ask because i just ordered the xga+ screen = ill probably get it in sometime next week... -

went from an AUO to an LPLO301.
ordered the AUO back in September. got the LP one in November.
AUO crap...LP amazing. had them side by side and the difference was insane. -

Thanks for the correction on my sig.
To bring this back to the original idea, please just post if you received a 1500 or 1700 series (do the 1400 series have it too?) very recently, and what/how the screen was. You can find the model number in the device manager. -
So is everyone with a LG satisfied?
-
right now - i have an older toshiba notebook - and it shows: "(Standard monitor types)" as the manufacturer under "Default Monitor"...will this be different with the dell? -

Sorry for posting a bit outside topic, but I have the m1330 and my monitor id is LCD2306, anyone know which producer that is?
Sorry for not being able to help OP. -
15.5 1680x1050 and mine is a Samsung SEC3350
Its from the Dell Outlet. Screen looks pretty good to me. -
Ordered October, 15.4" WXGA, very nice SEC3358
-
I bought a 1520 with WXGA+ on 10/24/2007 and received the LG screen.

I've had my 1520 for over 3 months now, and the graininess really doesnt bother me at all tbh. Of course, if u can get a grain-free screen, more power to you, but I think most people make more of a deal out of it than it really is.

I like my screen clean, and the GRAINY OR SPARKLING problem makes it look as if it had a bit of dust over it.
I'm not kidding you if I tell you that I try to clean it very often, and then realize that it is just that grainy issue.
The firts 1720 I bought from Dell was a WXGA and the screen was perfect.
My second 1720 was purchased because I wanted a 1920 x 1200 resolution and this is when I got my crappy screen.
And it really does bother me, specially when I compare it to my previous 1720 notebook. -
AUO2077 GRAINY.
Inspiron 1520
Received it in late July or August... -
My screen is quite bad and then I found out it was the AUO screen after I had that opinion, so I got an engineer to replace it but it was another AUO screen... so Dell are just replacing the laptop hopefully it will have a real good screen .
