Overall, vote from 1-10 exactly how satisfied you were with your Dell notebook, regardless of CS issues and shipping delays. Just plain and simple: How did your Dell technology perform? If your hardware came defective, you may account that in. Please also post your notebook and specs, and your rating.

My main gripes... cd-drive on the right side... keeps on popping into my mouse... but that's an overall laptop thing. Screen viewing angles, to be quite honest, SUCK. Screen color... suck. I found out how off-color the screen was when I installed XP, and the beige color of the normal XP theme was a clear gray. The c key on my keyboard fell off, and will not latch on tightly. Headphone port noise interference is very noticeable.
8/10. -
Just the noisy headphone deal. ONLY problem I have
8/10 -
just the noisy headphone jack for me tooo..
dell has gone cheap with the hardware, low quality for sure, no wonder the inspirons and vostros are cheap
8/10 -
got my laptop in 6 days from order to delivery. the sales rep was excellent and extremely patient. i received my laptop yesterday and so far it's excellent, except for the sparkly screen, which i will either have to get used to, or change later in it's useful life. overall, i'd give a 9/10.

vostro 1500
c2d 1.6 ghz
1 gig ram
8400M GS
i'd give it an 8. High pitched whine from DVD drive is annoying as well as the headphone jack thing. Kinda wishing i'd gotten the 8600 also -
constant lies/misinformation of whether or not my geforce is DDR3/2
-
I'd say 7.5, it was my first laptop and I have to say I'm enjoying it. It's a great machine but the grainy screen (I replaced it, still grainy), DDR2 for 8600M GT and the squealing headphone jack (which I remedied by using creative speakers that have a headphone jack, I hear no noise now) bump it down a bit. No one at customer service is on the same page either. But, overall, not bad, I'm satisfied with my purchase.
-
haha, the grainy screen is still an issue, i just put dark backgrounds for everything. not noticeble anymore.
-
Around 6-7 when I first received it. Grainy screen, headphone jack issue, etc. Also, the unit is somewhat thicker/heavier than expected.
After receiving a discount, satisfaction jumps to around 8; this is based on quality for the price I'm paying. -
Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
9-9 1/2
I've got a lot of old Dell hardware (mostly notebooks) that runs like new. Yeah, I've had one or two harddrives die on me over the years, but considering the how many working hours these machines, it's not surprising.
Dell has also (in my opinion at least) significantly raised the quality of their hardware over those same years, I haven't had a Dell machine that I found to be of lower quality than the previous one. One quite satisfied customer here. -
9-9 1/2, very happy with my m1330

Does anyone have a problem when they use the cd drive, uploading music for example it is very loud and it vibrates some times and makes an annoying sound. Should i be concerned?
-
I give my Inspiron 1720 a 3/10, because there is a big, relentless sound issue that is causing me to return my notebook. Every 60 seconds, any sound coming out of the computer, be it a song, DVD, or system notification sound, will crackle and distort for 3 seconds, then return to normal. This happens exactly every 60 seconds. Also, the 8600M GT has horrid performance, and there is no explanation. Very dissapointed... This is the end of my contact with Dell.
-
only thing i can complain about are the screen issues. dell is using horrible screens in these things.. hence my low score..
-
80% with good hardware
Not bad. We need more people voting on these though. -
I'd Give it a 4-5 for hardware.
I got bad LCDs 3 times. Both laptops had bad headphone noise, battery wobbles.
Other minor things include the LCD not sitting flush with the bezzle and you can see the light radiating from the sides.
The hitachi drive was VERY noise but the Fujitsu was silent.
stuff that like that adds up. -
3 to 4....
first off...the hard drive crashed after the first five days (i think because of my optical drive, which was also defective, it vibrated the entire laptop -- sounded like a motorcycle) -- both were replaced.
then...i decided to get rid of the grainy screen and the headphone jack noise.
sent the system into the depot for a good week hoping both would come back ok. they only replaced the headphone jack, which actually was silent now. Yay. but the screen.....
so its another week for the screen.
also, GDDR2 for 8600GT and the techs scratched my notebook up, and i have a case defect, but it holds the battery from wobbling, so that's all cool.
its like it isn't new anymore........its gonna be all refurb parts.
i also disagree with the fact that the GPU heatsink is in the same air path as the CPU heatsink...I think that like some laptops they should have put the GPU heatsink on another side using the same fan (the fan is in the corner, blows two ways), so that hte GPU doesn't heat up the CPU, because GPUs get hotter than CPUs (actually, in mobile applications, maybe not). The other complaint is that the hard drive does not have a cooling vent besides the express card slot which has a cutout in the metal shield between the expresscard slot and the hard drive...but does that really count?
