I called a 1-800 number i saw ina dell magazine and followed the instuctions to talk to someone about buying a computer. I thought maybe they would have some room to throw in a free upgrade of ram or something if you bug them enough and they like you. But it seems like they dont really have any leverage to do anything like that. They are very strict in sticking with the exact configurations of their current deals. I just thought they might have more power. Am i talking to the right people?

you don't want to do that. you want build yourself a nice discount with coupons from places like this website or ben's or apex or etc.

those deals in mailers/magazines/etc. are not that great.

I was walking back and forth, waiting for my e1705..
    Logged on to dellCHAT..
Asked Ravneet when he think my dell will arrive at my door..
After som conversation he offered to upgrade to Next Day-shipping for free..

    Is this common? :)

Not much $$$, but always something..

Haha! What a coincidence. I also chatted with Ravneet today about something else. :) Anyway, Dell CSRs are pretty good about upgrading shipping methods. I've done it once through online chat.

It's usually not too hard to get free upgrades/discounts on the xps line and precision line from a rep, but I guess they're not willing to throw out great deals on the inspiron lines since there are usually more and better coupons for the inspiron line.
