So I've finally had enough of the matte screen that came with my Dell XPS 17 and the only option is to return it.

My questions is...I installed a SSD card on the laptop....when I take that out. Will I be able to put it into another computer and will it keep all of my stuff on it? Or once I get a different laptop will I need to reformat and start over again....I am asking this mainly beacuse I have some work programs on it that I really do not want to reinstall

Windows 7 shouldn't insta-BSOD like XP did, a big bonus for Vista/7. However you could possibly have stability issues, as well as Windows/software activation may complain. Anyways a fresh install is always recommended going to a completely different chipset. Anecdotal evidence of course, I had a Vista Home Premium 64 bit go through an AMD chipset, Intel chipset, Nvidia chipset, and back to an Intel chipset with no issues/BSOD for 2.5 years. I only had to reactivate my OEM COA each time.
