So after suffering from the BSOD issue for 2 years, Dell has agreed to replace my Inspiron 6400.

I'm wondering what they will give me....
    I had a T2400 Processor
    X1400 256mb vid card
    WSXGA+ screen
    1gb of ram
    Windows XP
    120gb Harddrive
    Intel Wireless Card...

Any predictions? I should hear back tonight... I know that I'll have Vista, because they told me thats what I would get...

I'm not sure if I want them to give me a 15.6 inch, because all my laptop cases are for 15.4 and barely fit that... So might try to get a 13.3 inch with a vid card...

Let me know what you think! :D

Who knows what they will give you; depends what they have lying around. Can't imagine you'd get anything amazingly whizzy. Most likely a 1545 low end model I would have thought.

With regards to the width of your cases; I wouldn't worry too much about that - most 15.6" laptops still fit into 15.4" cases.

You could try to get a 13" machine out of them; but they don't do much in the way of consumer 13" machines, except the XPS, and if you get one of those out of them then you are a really really lucky person.

well they told me it will be the same specs or better... the 1545 doesn't have the high res WSXGA+ screen... which is at least 900p or 1080p (it's kinda like halfway)

Everything else on that laptop would however be beaten hands down by the 1545.

I'm just saying do not get your hopes up for an XPS M1730 or anything.

Understandable. I was going to assume it would be something like the Studio 15, as there is a video card and the high res screen options.
I may try to push for a M1330 because they are getting phased out anyways right? (replaced by the XPS Studio 13)

The studio 15 has the same display I'm afraid, and the 1545 also has a discrete graphics solution as well.

If you are lucky you might get one of the old Studio 15 models. I'm still banking on an inspiron 1545 mind.

You can try to push for the M1330, you might get lucky, depends on how many problems you've had / your case history / how nice an agent you get on the day.

Is the 1545 the same as the Inspiron 15? It appears that doesn't have firewire.... is that true? On the Dell Canada website, the Inspiron 15 has no screen upgrades. It's only 720p. The Studio has 720, 900 and 1080p

Well I'm from the UK and it's not an option here. Until just then I had no idea where you were from now did I :p

    Yes the Inspiron 15 = Inspiron 1545.

No I doubt they would upgrade you to a studio because of a firewire connection. Again, you can always try, it's not like you've got anything to lose.

Very true. We'll see what happens. BSOD problems suck. They made me... change my motherboard twice, change my ram twice, video card twice, Reformat, change hardrives.... that was over the past year and a half or so. good times :D

Do you happen to know what the warantee is on a replacement system?

Sorry no idea; I suspect it would be 12 months, but I've never had a replacement from them. If a laptop of mine breaks I buy a new one or fix it myself. I've had problems with replacement laptops from other companies in the past (like 8-9 years ago), and since then I simply cannot be bothered.

I'm sure laptop companies love me for this, but meh. Now if it was within say the first 6 months then that's a different matter; but touch wood that's not happened to me yet.

A replacement system warranty just continues with the same warranty you had on the original system. If your system gets replaced with one day of warranty remaining, then your replacement system will have that same one day of coverage left. :p

I guess they have to do that to stop people who would otherwise take advantage of getting a replacement laptop every x months/years.

Makes sense. My laptop is actually near the end of its 3 year warranty. Hopefully this new one won't be a lemon.
