My lap has D: drive as recovery partion with
Dell (folder has the factory image) and tools folder (has pcrestore.exe). I assume the are required for restoring dell to factory default.
Now along with these 2 folders there are many other folders ( windows, users, program files, programData and sources) . Could any one tell me what these other folders are for? and do i need these?

The folders within the Recovery partition are part of your system restoration utility. If you want to keep your ability to use the recovery partition, then don't delete anything within that D: partition. Personally, I just format that partition anyway and use disks if I ever have to reinstall, but that's personal preference.

Wait, so that recovery stuff lets us reformat the computer without using discs?
-
Yeah, that's what it's for.

i am about to format the partition and want to keep the option of doin a factory recovery using the media direct dvd (not through the recovery partion), in case i ever want to use it.
So will i need any files other that Factory.wim ? -
So if we follow Les' guide on clean installing vista; will that partition be wiped out?
