    Hi guys,

I'm planning to buy an inspiron 1525, but my major difficulty is that i can't order it with a 2gb module of ram memory instead of 2 modules at 1 gb each.

I talked with two sales representatives and both of them said that is impossible, but didn't explain why. I want to upgrade to 4 gb of ram on my own so i will not have to pay dell £200 for delivering me another 2gb of ram.

    Any advice please?

choose the cheapest option, upgrade it yourself and keep the dell mem or sell it.

(u might want to keep it for warranty/return issues)

If i want to downgrade the amount of ram they will charge extra. So i can only buy it with 2gb of ram, "throw" them away and buy another 4gb of ram?

    Thanks

hey yes with the cheapest option i ment the one with the lowest ram installed. if there is only one option that's the cheapest one.. i wouldn't throw them away though :)

but are u saying that they told u when u want to downgrade the 2gb it will cost more then leave it at 2gb?

    what's the price difference?

DELL usually have a set of preconfigured based units (where you can customize further), only low-end configurations have 1GB these days, meaning the rest of the components are also low in those. Therefore it could be cheaper to start with a medium/high-end base config with a better processor and VGA card (that may have 2GB already configured), than selecting the 1GB base unit and customizing up (CPU, GPU and other components). Selecting the system with the least amount of RAM and customizing is not always the best way to go.

The downgrade cost from 2gb to 1gb is £30. But with £30 i can buy 2gb of ram. :(

ok well it stays the same.. order the cheapest option and then buy the ram yourself, it's always cheaper then upgrading to 4gb at dell. u can keep the original mem or sell it.
