When will Dell start shipping computers with the Penryn Processors?
-
I've been wondering the same too, and I think they're waiting until they clear their stock of 65nm processors first.
-
If anyone from the future arrives to answer these questions, also let us know when Dell will release an LED option for the M1530. Thanks!
-
Future man here! march 26th
-
-
The processors are in stock in many pc hardware stores so I suppose if they did a quick bios update to support them across the range then that would be a start.
I need a T9500 -
-
They should be out when the money off finishes!!
-
ive heard they were coming out as early as the second week feb....let me say that again...IVE HEARD...
-
Probably as soon as the promotions end. Could be as early as next week, no later than the first week of February with HP/Apple etc already announcing Penryn notebooks.
-
damn this is frustrating..........there is a 10% off vostro voucher at the moment in aus, that ends on the 31st of jan.
I need the computer by early march, if the penryns arnt available by then it would have been a waste. -
-
penryn is already in hp dv9700t&dv6700t se
-
Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
-
You should be excited about the T9500. I had a promotion sample to test and it wasnt vastly more powerful than, lets say a T7800. Though battery life will benefit somewhat, the laptop they sent the T9500 in wasnt the best notebook in the battery life department either - it didnt show any improvement actually (ASUS S96S - was, is and still is ~2h of light usage). I'm probably getting the T7300 in my D630 replaced for a T8300 or T9300.
-
Looks like dell are lagging behind!! -
Rumors swirling around that Penryn has some issues that have delayed it. Whether these are technical issues or availability/supply issues no one knows. My guess is the latter. -
Could someone please clue we into why all of you people are waiting for the new CPU? What are you doing that requires a processor with 10% more power (if that) than you already have? To tinker? To brag? I'm using as intensive apps as anyone, and 30 seconds less on rendering 3D Studio Max isn't worth the cost here. Everything else I have doesn't need it. If anything, we need a better graphics card (#%@&ing Crytek!), a CPU is good for years.
-
I am sooooo tired of waiting I have been waiting for the M1530 to include Backlit LED screens since christmas.
I don't feel that penryn is that big of a deal but since it's out I'm also going to wait for it.
I just want a Laptop. -
Then you should buy one.
-
for people who are exchanging their m1330 due to defects during the time when penryn's released, will dell upgrade the replacement notebooks to penryn?
-
Probably not Penryn will is more expensive so I can't see Dell or any other company for that matter giving them away.
-
The reason I didn't wait is because those improvements appear to be marginal at best in real world testing and the notebook deals going on right now will erode for a while when these CPUs come out.
Besides, you never know whether there will be some glitches, teething problems if you will, with the new processors that may very well cause all those who waited to regret the whole wait thing.
OK, maybe I'm just trying to make myself feel better about not waiting. -
I didnt wait 2 years ago when I bought my Dell 6000 and got a great deal in the Jan sales. I was a bit gutted when all of the new machines hit the market a few weeks later - this time I will wait and see if I'm gutted when it costs me more....

Also Penryn features 10% longer battery life which may also come in handy for some. -
I need every last mhz
Add to that I'm not a real fan of compromising in areas that I don't have to. -
It may be true, but 20% perfomance boost also comes with higher price tag too, so it is not justify for me. I would buy the computer based on architecture changed instead of mior refresh, if you see what I mean. The sale is great right now, and if you need laptop now. This is the best time to buy it rather than wait. My T7700 will be more than enough to power my applications and my needs. -
Hey guys - check this out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4oEuPj-ADdA
XPS M1530 (T9300 Penryn) 3DMARK06 - 5207 with Windows XP.
From where did he get a M1530 with Penryn? -
Chances are he bought the cpu and installed it himself?
-
I can't wait until they put a T8300 option for the Vostro 1500 into the configurator. I'll be ready to buy by that time...
-
-
-
to get more accurate result, both computers have to have same background processes running.
-
I'm a notebook n00b and I have a question. Once penryn is released, can I install it manually into my m1330?
-
In theory, yes. You would need to makes sure your BIOS supports it though. -
Only in theory? So a n00b like me will have trouble installing it then. But no soldering and stuff involve, right?
-
You would need to know if your m1330 bios can support the new cpu and if it is within working limits of the m1330's cooling and power hardware. -
cooling would pose no problem since it's suppose to be cooler than the T7-series. It just takes a quick question with dell tech-support to find out.
If someone does, do post here and tell us =) -

I'm waiting for battery life increases and because I'm buying the laptop to last a while I'd like it as up to date as reasonably possible when I get it.
-
Well, lenovo is now offering the R61 with Penryn. Shouldn't be too long for Dell. I suspect it'll be next month after the current crop of coupons expire.

why is it taking Dell so long to come up with it? HP and now SONY has them in stock
-
Sony FZ are not in stock as I received an email today saying mine would not ship till around 2-19-2007.
-
-
Ok, who's placing an order tonight with discounts and then waiting to see if Penryn comes out tomorrow, and see if it's worth cancelling and re-ordering ?
Is it easy enough to cancel an order online within the first few days? -
-
-
So I'm guessing the Penryns will push up the price to at least £1200.
