    Do the delays apply to the UK (Ireland factory) aswell, or is it just for the US factory?

    Good informative thread btw

    It's useless to post delays. They seem to change all the time, probably to whatever Dell wants it to be.

    Just for the USA, for now. I may expend to the UK as well.

    I don't believe this is useless, as many people don't know why their laptop is delayed and what parts are delayed.

    Edit: dell.co.uk does not have delays listed, at all.

    This will help cut down on people making purchases only to find out that most of their laptop is delayed and they didn't really understand when looking on the dell website.

    Updated. The Soundblaster X-Fi is no longer on delay, but the Inspiron 1720 now has long delays for the nVidia graphic cards. Battery delays are also up.

    It used to be 14 days, but dell now claims that it's down to a much smaller, albeit annoying number.

    nnnnnnnnnooooooooooooooooooooooooo

    95%+ of Dell's notebooks are assembled in China so from whatever US delays there are it's safe to assume a variant of the time frame for the same part if you ordered elsewhere in the world.

    I'd love to keep this post updated, even after I get my M1530 so I can do it on the couch :eek:

    Sticky!! :)

    Also, if there are delays like, say, a screen with a 2 day and a battery with a 4, you do not get a 6 day delay. The total delay on the laptop will be equivalent to the item that has the longest delay, so it would be the 4 day battery.

    Edit: Added the XPS M2010

    Just updated.

    Some notes: Most delays have been shortened, except for the Inspiron 1720, which there have been added and extended delays. Battery delays, as normal, are up again. Cheers!

    Updated...

    On the Inspiron 1525, the 6-cell battery was removed from delays, and the 4-cell delay has been lowered.

    I believe on the Inspiron 1420, the 6-cell battery now has a delay.

    If they delay it again, I'm going Apple. For now I'm just waiting, annoyed nonetheless. I called a customer service guy and he told me right away that the 6 cell batteries were the issue. He said I might be lucky and it could get shipped earlier (originally bought it 5/25, now the ESD is like 6/29)...but at this point, who knows?

    Changes on the 1530:

    Full HD WUXGA 1920x1200 display = 1 day
    8600m GT = no longer delayed = 0 days
    6 cell battery = no longer delayed

    I'm sure all of the others have changed too, just letting you know what the m1530 is now.

    The 6-cell isn't delayed anymore!!!

    The 9-cell battery is now adding 16 days as of yesterday.

    I went to order my 1530 Monday night and they gave me a preliminary ship date of 7/8. I kept having problems with Dell's website when confirming my order and had to place the order the next day. The preliminary ship date then changed to 8/7. Added almost an entire month just because of the battery. Guess they just ran out over that 12 hour window when I finally got my order in. I would have settled for a smaller battery to get the 1530 quicker but the one I was looking at didn't allow me to change from the 9-cell. I almost decided to not get a Dell because of this. To be honest, I'm not sure why I did decide to get it with such a long delay. This is going to be worse than waiting for xmas when I was 5. Well at least they took the money out of my account almost instantly. No delay when it came to that.

    Black XPS M1530 || T9300 || 4GB DDR2 667MHz || 1440 x 900 LED LCD
    256mb 8600M GT || 250GB 5400RPM || Intel 4965AGN || 9-cell Battery.. grrrr ||
    Built-in Bluetooth and WUSB || Vista Premium but soon to be dual boot with Ubuntu

    Order: 6/24/08 || ESD: 8/7/2008 || EDD: 8/12/2008

    Same thing that happened to me. I thought about cancelling, but I really wanted the M1530 with the 9 cell so I've decided to wait it out... once I get it I'll be happy, but until then the wait is going to kill me (like you said, waiting for xmas when we were 5, lol)

    Updated...

    The majority of the 9-cells have now been delayed, however I re-ordered my XPS M1530 with a 9-cell last friday and I am already in boxing.

    The Wireless USB's have also been delayed. Removed some 6-cell delays and other Misc. delays.

    Dark, I will take your recommendation into consideration, however right now I do not have the time to do that.

    Just following around Dark as usual...I'm in the same boat as both of you. Wish I would've ordered on Friday instead of 6/23. It looks like we have about the longest delay of anyone, at about 6 weeks until ESD :( My main concern is that I will probably be taking a new job by then so my parents will have to ship it to me or something...

    I got an email today (live in Sweden), my laptop is delayed from 7 to 21... Apparently the 6-cell battery is the part that's causing the delay.

    EDIT:
    Forgot model: Dell XPS M1530

    Both my girlfriend and co-worker asked me the question, but I didn't know the answer. Maybe one of you knows: What is causing the delay with some parts - is it because they ran out of a part or they're about to?

    Going off of speculation here, but it's more than likely they are either running short on parts, or they are completely out of parts in their warehouse, and for the forseeable future they only see a trickle/no parts coming in.
