This is my first thread on the forums

Was just thinking... does the US Dell Outlet store seem to get much better deals than the UK one?

I'm currently in the market for a laptop, around £500ish - and so I check out the outlet quite frequently. There never seems to be that many good offers, most of the laptops cost over £1000 and the ones which are close to my budget, are usually more expensive than buying the same system brand new!

And I read quite a lot on here of people getting stonking deals from the US store, so I was hoping for the same sort of thing :(

That's my thoughts anyway, what do you lot think?

What laptop, specification are you looking at? Are you checking the Dell website or Ebay?

I'm checking both the Dell Outlet website, and the dell outlet ebay store.

Basically, either a 6400 or a 640m with 1GB Ram, Core Duo and a true life screen for around £500

Maybe there are deals... and I just don't get to them in time :(

You will be able to pick up a 6400 with 1GB and a true life screen for that kind of money - probably a 1.6 - 1.8 Duo and a 1280x800 res screen. I have been keeping tabs on the UK Ebay outlet. Do you use Firefox 2 as your browser? If so, go to the Ebay user dellfactoryoutlet, list their items for sale and subscribe to the RSS feed at the bottom of that page. I did this and just refreshed it every few hours to keep tabs on everything they were selling. Alternatively, you can use another NewsFeed reader.

Thanks, I've done that now. So I suppose I just keep a check on that now.

    Thank You ;)

Yes. The trick now is just to be patient. Set yourself a top price that you are willing to pay and what specs you are after and stick to those. You might lose a couple but eventually you will get what you are after at a good price. I did the same and got what I consider to be a bargain for the specification I was after.

i got a pretty good deal on the uk outlet i think

my notebook cost me 600 including VAT, and postage from there in julyish this year, i "was" on the phone to another company to order a acer i think but i was on hold for 45 minutes and while i was on there i decided to check the dell outlet at the time there were 2 virtually identical notebooks, but one had the dvd burner and one didnt, the one without was £20 cheaper so i bought that :) i have a dvd burner on my desktop anyway lol, if anything this notebook exceeds the specs i wanted :) lol
