I noticed something weird this weekend on the Dell.com/outlet site.

    Last Thursday I purchased a refurbished 1555 for $479 (includes 160GB HD and 2.1 Core 2 Duo)

On Saturday and Sunday I check the Outlet site again and they were selling Scratch & Dent 1555 for $469 (includes 320GB HD and 2.1 Core 2 Duo)

So 10 dollars cheaper with a bigger hard drive!

Today, Monday i go back and now all those SCratch and Dents are gone! Has anyone else noticed this happen? Is Dell only making some computers available on the weekend?? I feel like i got ripped off if i could have gotten the same comptuer for cheaper and a bigger hard drive.

Scratch and Dent means just what it says. You pay less for a computer that has scratches and/or dents. Refurbished computers look brand new.

They are gone because they have been sold. Outlet systems go fast.

Those machines are one of a kind, they don't build a system just to sell in the outlet. Once a used system is sold it is removed from the outlet. Make sense?

go for the best deal u can get. even if it's a s/d, u can always call tech support to fix the laptop just like new - that's been my experience. however, u have bought yours already, and dell restock fee is more strict in the outlet.

Dam I wish I saw this last Thurs, I just bought a studio 1555 core duo 2.0 ( 64 bit vista HP with it !) 250gb hd with 3 gb ram 720p LED for 429, pulled the trigger because I thought 429 was still a good price but 20% is 85 more dollars off!!!

I suspect there are ebay resellers trolling the outlet and sucking systems so fast it makes your head spin. I was on there looking at some high end PowerEdge servers the other day and a page full of a particular model all different configs all different price ranges disappeared in about 5 minutes. Very odd, like a ticket scalper hovering over the inventory snapping it up as soon as it's available.

If you watch you'll see the same configs popping up, many times people will put a whole page of systems in their cart, while browsing to determine which system they want most (since you can't see all specs from the main page). They get released when the person either removes them from their cart or their session is idle 15 minutes.

I was shopping for a Studio 16 and I finally saw them - there were like 15 on the site - and then within minutes they were gone, before I could put the one I wanted in my cart. I've been staring at the outlet for days waiting for that machine! I wonder if those freakin ebay resellers are watching...

And there are like 30 on ebay, all sold by the same people. I just know that they snagged my computer and are reselling it. Grrrr....

    Whattt???? 20% off coupon?

I saw the one in the Dell Outlet coupon thread ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=231526&page=159), the 20% off one, but I was unable to use it when I tried to buy a Studio XPS 16 this morning. And then someone snatched it from my grasp... sob.

I wish I knew when those things went up on the outlet website. Today was the first day I'd seen them. Maybe in the AM? Maybe thursdays in the AM?

And what is this 20% coupon...?

I really want an XPS 16 with the 1080p screen, but I'm waiting for one to show up with the 1GB video card too so it doesn't choke on that high resolution. :)

As far as I know...all the current Outlet coupons have expired. Sign up for Dell Outlet's emails, that is how you get a hold of one time use coupons (recently bought a Latitude E4300 from there at a 15% discount thanks to one of them).

Studio XPS 16's have a 1GB ATI video option now. Just picked up TWO 16's from the Outlet yesterday, using the 20% off coupon, both with 1GB ATI and 1080p screens! (one even has 8GB DDR3... :D )

That is what we hope when we buy a CR (Certified Refurbished). Most of the time, the units do look brand new. Other times (and especially with units that have black glossy chassis's) you'll find signs of use. Then other times (like a recent Studio XPS 16 from the Outlet), it looks like it was dragged across a cement floor!

Of course, there have even been times that I bought a scratch & dent and it looked BRAND NEW...no scratches or dents. Typically, if you see dozens of the exact same config at the outlet, you'll find they look new. Heck, I think sometimes Dell puts new stock in there just to get rid of it!

    I love the Outlet! :p

    good catch!

I think when I bought this one last Thurs it was inbetween cupons but a 429
for a studio 15 with 250gbhd and 3gb ram and T4200 it was still a good catch, I love the LED screen and the audio is good.

All around nothing is as nice in the stores on sale.
