I'm sorry if this is the wrong place to post this, but I desperately need to vent. On January 6th, I ordered a new 1645 with a Core i7 720 and an RGBLED. It was set to be delivered on the 28th, but it was then pushed back, then cancelled, then Dell re-opened a new identical order, set to be delivered on the 24th of February. I found a really nice Dell Outlet 1645 with a i7 820 in it for 80 bucks less than what I would have paid for the i720. Ordered it, waited a week, nothing. Turns out there was some sort of glitch on my address. (I moved in July, changed all my addresses, but it still hadn't gotten through apparently.) So, I call their silly phone number, and they tell me I have to call them with a PIN number they're going to mail me, fine, whatever. A week has passed and still no mail, nothing. I look at my order status tonight and Dell has now CANCELED this order without TELLING me. I am about to lose my mind. Meanwhile the 15% off Dell outlet coupon is now expired, and there are no longer any XPS 16's in the Outlet... *sigh*... I'm trying to give this company my hard-earned money and they are just making this entire process BEYOND frustrating. I've hoped and hoped that I'd see my laptop shipped since the beginning of January to no avail... Has anyone else had trouble with this sort of thing? I'm THIS close to never ordering another Dell again, I'm so fed up with this entire broken system.

its never happened to me. i bought many laptops from them for me and my friends and they are always been delivered within 4 to 6business days even though they had been said to be delivered later on date. i like their service very much. the last order i placed was 27th of Jan 2010 for S-XPS1645 and got it at 2nd of February 9am. (I m going to return it) i have placed another order for Studio1555 at 5th of February at night, so lets see when i m going to get it.

I hear you featherbeard. Ordering with dell is a continual problem. I've placed orders and had them go through with no problem. I've had other orders cancelled because of "fraud" and wasted hundreds of hours chasing ghosts with no explaination on their part.
I've had to invest tons of time to reclaim spent gift cards on cancelled orders.
The last time I spoke with dell I went through all the orders that were placed and the ones that were cancelled. Every order that was placed, whether cancelled or not was by me. The individual could offer no explaination and was silent to all my retorts.
Their systems and internal communications are a complete mess. -
Hi all,
I was about to start a new thread, but I'll post here.
Order for a 1645 was placed January 8th. EDD given was Feb 4th. On Feb 4th, the status was still "In Production," so I phoned to find out that the date had been reset to Feb 26th. I was told a part was on back order, but they would not tell me which part.
Can I expect it by Feb 26th, or brace for the worst?
When I go to the Dell.ca site, I see that new XPS 16 orders are missing the RGBLED option. Is the screen holding us up?
Anyone else with delays: please post your experiences. Thanks! -
having a delay currently with a 1647 with i5-530M, WLED.
said they would deliver by 5 Feb, but they had some problem which they didn't specify. Pushed to 19 Feb.
Due to further logistics problem, EDD was pushed 2 MONTHS, and being an international student, might be pushed 4 months instead. can't check order status, keeps saying that i entered invalid details.

So a small update: I emailed the Michael Dell email address with the situation and got an email and call back from one of the reps today. Her tone was basically "Sorry, and we can't really guarantee a price change, but we can give you overnight shipping." She told me the RGBLED screen was on backorder and somewhat confirmed the throttling issue with the XPS 16 was part of it as well as they need to test things internally before releasing them to the public. The one thing I'm noticing that is VERY concerning to me is that Dell is currently trying to sell a Core i7 with a WLED 1920x1080 screen for MORE than what I spec'd out with an RGBLED screen. That's kind of shady... Not only that, but I had a frickin Core i7 820 with the RGBLED screen from the outlet and my total price with tax and overnight shipping was 1700. (4gb ram, 500gb) That's a VERY good deal, and basically what she told me is there's very little chance of me seeing it that cheap again. I'm a little upset.

That is very shady, I noticed that as well. I thought about canceling my order and then reordering because the lead times looked smaller. After I saw that the regular screen cost more than the RGBLED screen I've decided to wait it out.
-
Yeah, I'm trying to figure out what to do as well. I got a letter in the mail today saying 'there's a problem with your order, and you have 5 days to contact us to fix it or we're going to cancel it'. Too bad I ordered almost TWO WEEKS AGO.
-
The EDD on the order status site now says "Information Temporarily Unavailable." I am really hoping the RGBLED comes in soon, and that I will see this thing before February 26th. Having it delayed any more will be extremely frustrating. -
Exactly! I was tired of waiting (ordered Jan 6th, delayed until Feb. 24th), so I found the outlet Studio 16 so I wouldn't have to wait, but now that's gone, and it looks like they've pulled (or sold) all the Core i7 Studio 16's off the outlet. I'm thinking they pulled them due to the throttling investigation, so I'm hoping they'll be back...
-
Okay, I just got really lucky. Found ONE Studio 16 Core i7 820 with the RGBLED on the outlet and managed to nab it. Now let's see if Dell can price adjust a little to go along with the free overnight shipping they promised for screwing with me.
