That is a good price. Did you use a Dell coupon? I can't find any price like that on the 700m. What made you decide to go with the 700m?
I hope you have read this www.recall700m.com -
I used the 750 off coupon and the 50 off coupon and you have to choose the 700m model with the free dvd writer upgrade. I'm not going to use the audio in so i wasn't worried about that.
I was deciding between the dell, the fujitsu s2110, s6231, s6240, the ibm t42, t43 and the sony s430, s460 and s550. I went with the dell only for the price. I have used fujitsu's exclusively in the past but didn't want to pay another 400 for a comparable system. The fujitsu is very sturdy and reliable, however I felt the dell with the warranty would be worth it. I know people think dell's support is horrendous but you just have to be kind and be patient. If you are, you don't know how many things they'll give you for free. I nixed the ibm's because I wanted a sub 14" screen. the sony's were in the same price as the fujitsu and I would have got a fuji if I chose to spend that much. -
aw man, i could use a shipping upgrade from ups ground. are shipping upgrades still possible after its been shipped?

That looks like an excellent deal!
Dell makes the lowest price 12" in notebook on the market, can't be beat for the price.
I'd like to see Dell refresh the 700m series with the latest Sonoma platform, but that adds heat...and heat is a definite problem in small notebooks. -
Is the price for the 700m the best for a machine in that price range? I live in Canada and have NO coupons whatsoever. So I am going to be paying about $1450 USD for a 700m with 512MB DDR, 1.7GHz P M, 80GB (free upgrade for this week's 'deal') HD, 1-year Complete Care (comes with that package).
I am just worried for THAT price is worth for me to go the Dell way? Again, I want a RELIABLE machine, not the 'fastest' out there or anything. Good processing; MS OFFICE applications and crisp image, portable size, durable machine.
CCM67, if it isn't too much to ask, and you were saying you will get your notebook on 'next day air', could you possibly just try out the mic-in jack on the front of the machine with a standard mic and listen to playback? Then tell me if in fact your machine has that defect...I just want to get an idea as I may use that and would like to know if the defect still exists.
Thanks in advance. -
if you are going to spend $1450 for those specs, I would seriously recommend a fujitsu. Go to the fujitsu web page and look for the 6231 under closeouts, or you can also check out the 6240 at portableone.
-
Well if I could spend less on a similar machine, by all means, I would. Let me know of any similar performing machines for less price. Portable and doesn't heat quickly.
-
The fujitsu seem to be out of my price range. The cheapest being $1700 before taxes! Give me the link perhaps or other models I can search for, thanks.

Scroll Down to dell home. Both coupons are there. -
I tried to use both the $750 and $50 coupons but somehow couldn't get the additional discount w/ the $50 coupon.
I kind of find the coupon things confusing to use. Isn't this Dell's confuse-and-conquer strategy?
BTW, thanks for the info. -
It looks like the $50 off coupon doesn't work anymore. It was working 2 days ago when I ordered for a friend... I guess dell cancled it early.
-
I can't seem to get in to where you were!! This is the best I could come up with...does this look like a good deal?

Limited Warranty, Services and Support 3Yr Ltd Warr,At-Home Service, and Tech Support plus Nights and Weekends
Dell Media Experience Dell Media Experience with Remote Control
$1247.40
I find the Dell site very frustrating...I had a a similar configuration at a different price but can't seem to "save" a cart or anthing!! -
That is a good price. I assume you used a coupon, unfortunately I (here in Canada) won't be able to use any special coupons. But for that price, coupon or not, is a good deal for a Dell 700m notebook. You can add 1GB RAM in your open slot later for superior performance.
-
you can get a 6231 off the fujitsu closeout for $1350, 1.6 512mb. then buy a 80gb 5400 rpm drive for $100 comes out to $1450.
-
Is that $1450USD? And is 'closeout' the used laptop section? I think there is a different name for it on the Canadian customer site.
-
$1450 us... I went to the outlet store at fujitsu.
-
is $1247.40 with shipping and tax?
-
I will check but are they used laptops? The Fujitsu ones that you are talking about?
-
no they are not!
-
Okay. Well I can't find any 'closeout' section of the Fujitsu website. And even if I were to go with this product where would I get it serviced had the need ever come up? I live in Canada and they're barely any Dell kiosks let alone anything relating to Fujistu.
Dell Order, how did I do?
