Can anyone help me here? I've had a Studio 15 ordered since December 2. First, it was due Dec. 16. Then Jan. 2. Then Jan. 9. Now it's Jan. 16. What gives?

Has anyone here ordered a Studio 15 and received it? If so, what were your specs?

If anyone from Dell is listening, your help would be appreciated.

A copy of my customer service nightmare with Dell is on my blog at www.auri.net.

    Thanks,

    -Auri

Id Cancel the order. And either place it again, or choose a different company.

Well, the laptop I ordered had the 500 GB hard drive option. They're not offering that option anymore...

Funny thing is, I had EVERYTHING on this laptop... even the four year service plan.

One other detail: It's still in the In Production stage.

If the cover is really the reason, and you're attached to that design, then I wouldn't cancel.

If you're willing to let go of the design and the 500 GB drive (I would), CANCEL. There's no reason you should have to put up with that. You can probably get a similar configuration heavily discounted now, anyway.

Yeah, I'm very tied to the design. Otherwise I would have canceled long ago. I love Japan, and that Flight 2342 design is just da bomb.

I don't believe this Vijay guy. They're not going to send you to the back of the line if you cancel because there is no line. People all around you have been ordering and receiving Studio 15s since you first placed your order, all different configurations (maybe not with that particular design, but definitely with that motherboard). You just got the short end of the stick because their order fulfillment system is disorganized, opaque and incomprehensible.

Besides, they're not waiting for one cover design, or one motherboard, to fulfill your one order. They're waiting for a stock of them so that they can fulfill backordered and future orders. If they are indeed being upfront with you and that is the reason for the delay, and it's not just the luck of the Dell draw, then the most this could delay you is a few more days.

The only way canceling could set you back even more is if they don't receive enough stock to fulfill their existing orders, and if that's the case, then these guys really don't deserve your business anyway.

I really believe canceling can only improve your chances.

Yeah, I'm just bummed about the whole thing. I'll just leave the order open, and see if I get it within 3 months :)

HA! You have the patience of a saint.

I ordered an S17 a few days before thanksgiving, but the wait was only three weeks, because on 12/15 Dell canceled the order. This, after getting a whole lot of misinformation from Dell. They told me everything but the actual status of my order. They told me it was in production. They told me it was in testing, in boxing, then in production again, then in boxing, then in testing. They told me everything would be fine when I finally received it, that I'd be so deliriously happy that I'd forget all about the crap they fed me. They told me it would be shipped in 72 hours, 24 hours, 48 hours. Then they told me it was canceled, and then denied that it was canceled, then confirmed it. Drove me crazy.

Amazing. How is their system, its only purpose being to properly manage orders, so screwed up?

Plus, to be fair, it gives me a bit of satisfaction knowing my order being in limbo for so long likely makes their numbers look bad.

I took brief solace in a misguided assumption of solidarity, but while they were still in the process of botching my order, several people posted here order turn-around times of less than a week, with configurations virtually identical to mine. Depresses me to think about.

Auri, here is the real deal... Dell has had supply issues with some of the parts needed for the Studio 1535 & 1537 models. Contact customer service and let them know that you are no longer willing to wait and they will upgrade your order to better specs at NO charge. See this thread for details .... http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=337144

    Good luck!

Ok, January 12 - Got my laptop. Finally. Still not going to order any more Dells, especially after the runaround. I must admit, the laptop is pretty nice - feels very solid. They forgot to send me Roxio re-install discs, but said that would be to me in 3-5 days, after I sent them an email about the issue. They still haven't responded about the odd clicking sound coming from the hard drive - like the heads keep parking...

    Dec. 2 - Jan. 12 - Ouch.

    Best,

    -Auri
