Just thought I'd point this out for everyone. I just recently had a conversation with my Onsite tech and he blew my mind. First let me say that he is very good and seems to know what he is doing(changed a mobo in about an hour). So I was kinda interested in how he got started doing the repairs. Thought I might want to do something along those lines for some extra income.
Well, long story short, he told me Dell only pays him $29 per job!!! What!!!! Per job-not hour. Seriously???!!!
He did tell me they get paid for mileage over 35 miles but still-$29?? Couldn't believe it. You would think they would have some sort of pay system like a car mechanic does that stipulates 'this job take 2 hours and costs X$$$" you know?
Just thought I'd throw this on here for people to see and maybe we could just empathize for them and maybe offer a Pepsi and snack when they come by.
    $29??? Blows my mind!!!

Perhaps it's to encourage their techs to work quicker. I'm sure a good portion of their jobs take less than half an hour, but I can imagine many of them taking an hour or more.

I agree. $29 would be fine for say-a hard drive swap or keyboard. But to change a mobo, or graphics card in a notebook? And often they have to call tech support themselves and spend several minutes on the phone. Just seems they would have set rates.

Maybe that is why the Onsite Tech nearly destroyed my XPS 1530 at that time, buy dropping it on the table & trying to cover it up, and being a "jerk" in all essences. Because his "Pay per job" wasn't the best.

I don't think every On-Site Tech is bad...I just think that some are not properly trained & don't give a crap about how they handle a owner's lappy.

It took another OnSite Tech to repair the damage that the one Tech did. When he opened up my lappy, he found that the Tech never completed the work he was originally there to do.

I complained to Dell about the Tech & they passed it off to the OnSite company saying it's a 3rd party contractor. I complained to the Onsite company & they passed the buck back to Dell. I am not sure what happened with the tech that did the damages...but after the other Tech fixed up what had happened and reported it...who knows..

LoL..I didn't have to offer the OnSite Tech a Coke, he brought his own into my house, placed it on the table..and knocked it over. I had to clean that up also....

LOL... funny, I always offer my onsite tech a coke and snack and he always declines. I've got to know him pretty well since he's been out at my house over a dozen times, lol!

I wonder if that $29 is what is totally paid or if that tech you spoke with is going through a company and they simply pay him $29 a visit. Some of them work like staffing agencies where dell is paying out $75 per call, but that money is filered through the 3rd party company, insurance, and then the tech. So maybe others get paid more... and other get paid less. I'd be curious to know what they make. I deff figured it was more that $29 per visit.

@ Cin' - That's crazy. Not suprising, but crazy. I doubt anything happened to the guy and it's probably still happening to others. Sad. I'd have asked him for a number to his direct supervisor. That would have got the ball rolling. Can't believe he not only brough it a beverage, but also spilled it... wow.

They have to compensate for the abundance of broken components that the tech produces.
