i dunno might sound like a stupid question..but i heard you might be able to do it. I recenlty found a Sager notebook for a good price on Xotic PC store. but of course they don't come preconfigured with an OS. I was wondering if i would be able to take my dell OS of vista home basic and put in on that Sager computer. Thanks

Technically the OEM version of the OS should not be installed on other machines than the original, but I don't know if Microsoft actually catches all of the occurrences. I'd guess there's a chance you could install it.

Legally, of course, you shouldn't. But whether it's technically possible is another matter.

I don't think OEM installed OS can be transferred like that. It would bomb out during install saying no dell or something. But you could try installing it and activating with the key that it comes with in the back of the notebook.

if its not illegal i'll just spend the extra 73 or 80 bucks on the OS for the Sager if i decide to buy it. i don't know why Sager's don't come preconfigured with an OS in the first place. thanks

no, unless you flash the bios.
the OS will detect its not a Dell mobo and will ask you for activation etc after installtion.
