Hey, thinking of getting an 'XPSTM M1730' laptop from Dell. Checked it out on the website and it looks pretty good. I just had two questions really; I have rather general knowledge on computer spec you see.

Im looking for a super gaming computer, like I wanna play games like Crysis perfectly, and have it last for a good few years. So when I was thinking about my processor speed, I wasnt sure what to get. I was thinking the "Intel® Core™ 2 Duo processor T7700 (2.40 GHz, 800 MHz FSB, 4 MB L2-cache)" but my friend said games arent too worried about GHz anymore, and it was a waste of money. Would that be accurate? Should I get a 2.20 instead? ...or maybe should I go to 2.80 even?

The other thing involved RAM; Ive shopped around, and Ive come to one conclusion...Dell is a rip off, lol. Now other stuff is probably over-priced too, but I think RAM is the only thing I can replace easily enough in a laptop. So I was thinkin...could I ring Dell and tell them to forget the RAM, gimme 0? ...and buy some myself, and stick it in? If anyone has any advice on these subjects, that'd be awesome.

(p.s. if theres a much better direction to go in with gaming laptops, Id love advice on them too :D)

    Thanks!

    Oh, one last thing about the RAM. I was shopping around (I live in Ireland, so I looked at Komplett) and, can anyone tell me the difference between "Crucial DDR2 SO-DIMM PC5300 2048MB CL5, Non-ECC, 1.8V, 256Mx64, 200pin" and "Crucial DDR2 SO-DIMM PC6400 2048MB CL5, Non-ECC, 1.8V, 256Mx64, 200pin"

They both seem to be the same amount of RAM, except the PC5300 stick is 79 euro and the PC6400 is 112 euro?

I presume the PC6400 is better in some way perhaps?

Yes, get the 2.2GHz T7500 there'll be almost no difference compared to the T7700. Yes, Dell overprices their ram so you can just stick with the default RAM and upgrade it yourself.

:O dual 8800's...youch, that sounds pricey xD

Im looking at Alienware now though! I know its owned by Dell, but for some reason it seems better, cheaper and slimmer? wtf? lol

    ITS A SCAM >:-(

One strange thing on Alienware though was they were offering T7400 2.16GHz and T7600 2.33GHz, while Dell is doin the 2.20 and the 2.40... why be different? in either case, out of the T7400 amd the T7600, whats a good choice? We're talkin a difference of 253 euro.

btw, its the Area-51 m9750 Im looking at, if anyone knows much about it~

SmoothTofu, I want to believe that the T7500 and the T7700 will be almost identical for Photoshop work and video work. Any thoughts?

You're going to spend a lot of money to get a laptop that will run Crysis on high and last 2 years worth of future games.

Still, the Sagers are worth a look (I think they will ship to the UK). Also check out Alienware's upcoming M15x and M17x, should be out later this month.

Well the best I can find is this saegar one, with a quad processor, 4gb of RAM and Dual Geforce 8800's, I dont think I an get much better! Its over $3,000 but when converted down to euro, it seems to be well within my budget!
