Isn't it a Lithium Ion (LI-ON) battery? I think Ni-Cd's where last used in a notebook about the same time as dinosaurs roamed the earth. Either way, at 2 1/2 years old and many charges, the battery is almost certainly toast and your best bet is to buy a new one. I don't know of any reconditioning methods that are worth bothering with.... You should be able to find an aftermarket battery on the bay for <$50.

You would need to most likely buy a new battery.
