    Hows going people ?

I want to make everything clear first :

*Thermal paste and heatsink seating is okay, checked several times.
*Processor and ATI GPU temps are okay too.
*Bios is updated, i've tried all the available Bio's from A06 to a15.

I'm having strange issues with my Dell N5010 ([email protected],Ati 5470m,3GB ram and it's not under warranty anymore). The problem is just It just shuts down, no CPU/GPU overheating etc. It doesn't matter if it is on AC adapter or battery, or Ac adapter without battery inserted etc.

I googl'ed alot but didn't find any solution, then i came across HWiNFo, the only application which gave me an option to enable " DELL EC(embedded controller" sensor so i did.

After enabling it i found "GPU" under Dell EC to have extremely high temps reading, Since i already have (the only GPU) ATI 5470m in my system, i don't know what's the purpose of that "GPU". I've noticed that when this unknown "GPU" hits 106celsius, my computer shuts down automatically!

My laptop is not hot either, just a little warm and that's it. I don't know what to do, please help me out!

It make me wonder if it's one of the chips located under the copper plate to the right of the fan assy.

There should be a thermal pad there.

But the way it s shutting down on you definitely indicates a heat issue.

Yea, there is already a thermal pad there under Copper plate if that's what you are referring to. Otherwise please post a picture of Dell N5010 motherboard to guide me where the "chip" exactly resides.

If it's really a overheating issue then i've my doubts because i never saw that "GPU" go below 88c even on COLD start or whenever i wake my laptop from couple of hours of sleep mode.

Other than Dells service manual, I could not find a real good schematic diagram. Sorry.

But my point was that anything that produces this kind of heat must be located in a area where the heat pipe is part of the cooling solution (or it has its own heat sink)

It is possible that the temp sensor is acting up, but if you can get your hands on an IR heat sensor you may get lucky and isolate the heat source - not an easy task on a laptop mind you.

Hmmm, thanks for helping me anyway.

I don't know how this thing can product so much heat since it never go below 88c even after waking-up from 5 hours of sleep mode ? Seriously? I don't think it can produce that much heat in 1sec when resuming laptop from sleep mode! There is something really really wrong here!

    I hope someone help.
