Ok, since the last thread about this was flushed down the crapper. How about a thread for people who use it, or are interested ONLY. NO haters...etc...you people can continue on in that one! thanks!

I am very excited for this software to be released to the mainstream.

Some of the newbies here may not even know what you are referring to. Maybe you could post a link explaining exactingly what Dell Mobile Connect is.

Thanks Alex. Just got back here....

The big question now is, are they going to release it to devices bought before 2018?

I like the idea, but if this software will be limited to Dell, it won't likely be analyzed properly as if it was commonly available, thus some critical security flaw may go unnoticed for months and compromise end users.

Update: After reading more about the app, it seems to work through Wi-Fi Direct, which is nice and secure, at least in theory. Still, this may be concerning, especially on a rooted phone.

I don't root stuff anymore. Dell developed this, why would they give it away to other companies. it's a great feature thats only on dell. A great selling feature IMO.

    can you hear me now?

All joking aside, how is the responsiveness of the software? I don't even know if it would work on my 9560 or 9365.

It will work no problem on your 9560. I had to side load it. There is a little work around you do, no big deal at all. I am running it on my 13 5000 2 in 1. There is about a 4 sec. delay from the time you get a text on your phone to the time it rings in. I only tried it once with my wife, but It may speed up and smooth out after a few min running. It's really cool. Also, it sends back imessages from your dell too!

After using Mobile Connect a little more, there is a delay just long enough for the computer to send and receive messages from your phone. It's no more than a second or two now. So, once it all connects and settles down, it's fast. VERY COOL!

The mobile connect software has received a couple of updates that let it run in the background on IOS now, so even with the app "off" you still get texts and calls, etc on your dell. Sweet setup, I am loving this software.

I would love to run this on my 9365. Can you offer any advice on where to look for information about how to download and side load the app?

I am pretty sure I have side loading down, but don't know how to get the app off the app store when it states it is unavailable.

    Thanks!

Thanks for replying. I was mostly leery of sideloading an APPX that I found on some random website. In the end, I decided that since the install packages are digitally signed, it is probably safe. It would also be a pretty extensive long con for someone to hack a fairly obscure Windows Store app, write a series of blog posts about it to get a top search ranking and then hope someone transmits something useful with it.

For anyone that might read this, I think the "correct" solution would be to download and install the app on a valid computer, then copy the APPX install package wherever you want it. Unfortunately, I don't have a supported device. I also am not sure where those APPX files are stored, but they must be somewhere on the computer.

I do have it working, but the iPhone restrictions make it somewhat less than stellar. This might be one more item to add to my excuses to switch to Android.

    (I miss my Windows Phone.)

Windows phone was great, but needed apps. I miss my 1020 dearly. However, the only advantage that android has over IOS in this application is viewing the apps on screen. Something I don't care about. I can message make and take calls...thats all I need.

Just an update, Mobile connect on IOS now supports 3rd party notifications. That's awesome. You will get all your notifications on screen via mobile connect now. Keeps getting better!
