Anyone get the Dell Mobile Broadband Card Utility for the Dell Wireless 5700 Mobile Broadband to work in Vista yet? I am getting port errors when using the modem connection directly.

The 5700 card is actually a Novatel V640. It looks like it is a Verizon Wireless card. First try VZaccess wireless manager from VZW.

If that does not work then download the Manager from the Novatel the manufacturer.

Third party managers like Dell's typically are not as good as the manufacturers. VZW does do a good job so try them first. The last result would be to create a DUN (dial up network interface). A DUN probably is the best option if you do not mind having no manager interface. The number is #777, username is your#@vzw3g.net and the password is vzw. Just use the dial up connection wizard in vista.

For more help I recommend www.evdoforums.com. They are the masters of evdo. Let me know how it goes.

Extremely helpful response. I am in the right direction now anayway. The Verizon VZAccess didn't work. But, the Novatel MobiLink™ Communications Software Suite seems to be what DELL uses. I can't find a download on the Novatel site. I'll see if they will repond to a individual request.

If Novatel and Dell's interface look the same then Dell is paying Novatel to put Dells name on it. So, it probably will not work. You can try it but a DUN sounds like your best bet. Make sure the card is activated before using a DUN. The easy way is to install the software on an XP machine and connect. That is probably not an option because of the express slot. With a DUN you can use hyperterminal and send some AT command to activate.

    Good Luck

I have the VZ Access Manager working on my Dell 5700 ExpressCard in Vista RC1.

I got it to work today... I've also finished decompiling the MSI file for the Dell Connection Manager. I'm about to leave for the rest of the weekend but I'm hoping to be able to make my modifications and recompile the MSI soon.

I've already found where Dell is checking for a "Dell compatible system" so removing that should do the trick...

If you want to know how to use VZ's software let me know...

DELL released an updated version for Vista on 11/28. Everything works fine now. I don't even use the utility. I have DUN set up for the 5700. I just needed the utility to activate the card.
