Do any of you have a Dell Mini and do you know if it would be easy to upgrade the SSD? And if it is possible, which ones are compatible?

I am looking to save as much as I can by getting linux and installing XP myself with a license I already own, popping in 2GB of RAM I have from another machine, and hopefully a larger/faster SSD.

If you're talking about the Inspiron 910 mini, it uses the Mini-PCIe SSD from Intel and the largest size currently avail is 16GB...

It would be possible in the future to upgrade when they release 32GB or higher capacities.

Yes I am asking about the insprion 910.

I was thinking of configuring it with the 4GB and replacing it with a 16GB or higher. Where can I buy a PCIe SSD? How much would it cost?

Could you seriously not spend 10 seconds googling "PCIe SSD"?

I believe the Dell Mini uses 50mm PCIe SSD's, where the "MydigitalDiscount" drives are designed for EEE PC's which are 70mm, so therefor don't fit into the new mini.

The 4 and 8 GB SSD's in the new Dell are Made by intel and are pretty rubbish it seems in benchmarks, where the 16GB SSD is made by STEC, and once you've setup Win XP properly it will run a lot faster than the intels.

I'm with you on this, i'm planning on buying the Ubuntu version of the Dell Mini, with 512MB of ram if possible and then installing XP Pro Myself and upgrading to 2GB of Crucial PC2-6400 SODIMM (It would also appear they do a 4GB version for an absolutly rediclous price!, so if you've got the cash you could up it to 4GB (btw i'm not too sure on this one, but it would appear to fit))

But i'm gonna go with the 16GB STEC SSD for now, and see what happens in the next year or two, currently i don't think you can buy 50mm SSD's anywhere, but i'm sure by early next year we'll see lots of retailers selling, so best bet is to hold on for now

Thanks for the clear answer. That is what I was actually thinking too. So at this point I will probably just get the 8GB from Dell. And yea it doesn't look like too many people are selling affordable replacements just yet, so I'll hold off until they become readily available.
