This is just a question about Dell laptop memory. Looking at the Dell Home site, I notice a 1 GB DDR II 667mhz stick has the part manufacturer part # SNPY9530C/1G. If it's for an M1330, 1520, or 1720, it's $69.00. If it's for a 1420, it's $52.99. And for a Vostro its $45.99. Why does the same memory have different pricing depending on model number? Do they think customers aren't smart enough to figure out that all of these notebooks use the same DDR II chips?
I know someone is gonna respond and ask why buy memory from Dell. Don't bother. I don't go for off brands no matter how cheap it is

Well, the different pricing might depend on their business model for a specific model and also the outlet that you are buying from.
As for the memory stick. It's up to you, but most memory sticks in the Hot Ram Deals thread are from reputable brands. -
Corsair VS 1GB DDR2-667 = $44 ($34 after MIR)
G.Skill 1GB DDR2-667 = $40
OCZ Value 1GB DDR2-667 = $44 ($39 after MIR)
As anyone will tell you, the above brands are not "off brands", and are cheaper than Dell. As far as the price difference, Dell has a habit of doing this. For example, there may be up to a dozen different order pages for the Inspiron 1520, each with their own base price, options pricing, and ship dates. If you know the right e-value code, you could save a significant amount of money. It's a real treasure hunt when it comes to ordering with Dell.
