    Hello Everyone,

So basically, I hate vista. Which is why when I purchased my Dell Inspiron 1420 I changed my OS from vista to XP.

XP is running on my machine without any problems.
But one day when I rebooted my machine, it had gone into the dell MediaDirect 'thing' and the system suddenly halts on the Dell MediaDirect screen and informs me that it cannot access my hard drive.

Just before this had happened I was playing around with the power options properties so I can just hibernate my machine when I click the power button. Could there be some connection here between the two? I thought maybe it had something to do with that....

And is there a way to resolve this the MediaDirect from loading without reinstalling a fresh copy of the OS?

Note: I read another thread on this topic but the topic seems to be centered around vista.

    Thank you

(And is there a way to resolve this the MediaDirect from loading without reinstalling a fresh copy of the OS?) No, Media Direct F's up your boot log if pressed at the wrong time and you need to re use your media direct disc which in turn formats and re-partitions your HD.(its a little more complex then that description but I doen't suggest you multi-boot and stuff unless you read up on it 1st casue you will waste alot of time before you have it all working)

I hate the MediaDirect option, on my Qosmio F20 the Media DO-Dat works perfect and doesn't screw up partitions or boot logs, FYI Dell.

It doesn't mess them up... Pressing the button a second time takes you back to what it was like before you accidentally pressed it ;).

UPDATE** sorry this post is nearly a month old, but i searched for it and this is what i found, cos i had the same problem.

If this happens, put ur OS disc in, boot from it, and repair windows. For some reason that only works if you do it twice though :S

but its alot better than loosing your stuff and doing a fresh installation.

    Works perfect.

btw wot is the dmd button? i cant even see it, so i dont know how this error happenned on mine.
