    Hi again guys,

I don't know if this had been posted before. If id did, I apologize for duplicating posts.
I've read that some guys who have gotten the I6400 (E1505) and the
I9400 (E1705) have messed up the Media Direct partition while reformatting their notebooks and some have requested the MediaDirect 2.0 CD from Dell but, sometimes, Dell sends out the wrong CDs.

While browsing another notebook forum I found out that a guy had uploaded and ISO image of Dell MediaDirect 2.0.
The file is huge (approx. 337MB) but with broadband it shouldn't take more than an hour to download it.
After that, you only need to extract it using WinZip 10 or another zip utility you have and finally you can burn the ISO image onto a CD using Nero or another CD burner utility.

I downloaded it to see if I could be able to make it run on my I6000d.
Although, I'm not very confident I'll succeed on this task since this version of MediaDirect was probably designed for the newer notebooks with Core Duo and the MediaDirect button wich the I6000d doesn't have.

    Than you

    Carlos

Can I use mediadirect on my laptop thats not by dell?

If i have done a clean install of the OS (im guessing the people who need this .ISO have done the same) will it work? Not having to boot to windows to listen to music would be awsome!

    Hey _radditz_,

I can't tell for sure if Dell MediaDirect 2.0 will work on other Dell notebooks like I6000. I'm going to try it myself but since I deleted all the partitions when I got my notebook I only have a single partition (Windows XP PRO) so I might have to reformat again and delete the main partition and create a 1400MB partition for MediaDirect 2.0 and the rest would be for Windows.

I'll give it a shot and I'll try to post back once I get results.

    thank you

    Carlos

Not likely and if you could you wouldn't gain anything....

Not to disappoint, but when using MediaDirect... it is using Windows. For the newer Dell's it is a 'trimmed down' 1.4GB version, but it is still Windows.

And the newer MediaDirect 2.0 software won't work [from Power OFF] without a MediaDirect button.

Best you can do is to use the 'older' version of MediaDirect in conjunction with Dell Media Experience and see what that does, but I'm not sure how you would launch it.... Maybe someone else can speak to that

Thanks Carlos, I look forward to hearing if it works or not.

Mark, I dont have any media buttons on my laptop so I dont think it'll work if it needs a media direct button.

Do HP have similar software for doing this?

    Hi again,

_radditz_, there is a similar software from HP that supposedly does exactly the same that Dell MediaDirect 2.0 (starting your notebook without booting into Windows XP). It is called QuickPlay but I think that it only works on selected models of HP notebooks like dv4000 which uses a centrino processor.

I got the link for QuickPlay if you want to try it: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...roduct=468789&lang=en&softwareitem=ob-29445-1

Although, I can't guarantee that it is going to work on your HP notebook.
The same applies to Dell Mediadirect 2.0 which won't probably work on the
I6000d and earlier models since it relies on Dell QuickSet to work and Dell QuickSet is the software for using the function keys, the multimedia buttons on front of the notebook and the Dell MediaDirect button placed near the power button on the E1505 which the I6000d doesn't have.

It looks like CyberLink reached an agreement with HP to provide the software used for not booting into Windows to HP notebooks. (CyberLink is also the company who makes Dell MediaDirect 2.0 for Dell notebooks), information related to this can be read here : http://www.cyberlink.com/eng/press_room/view_1030.html

Lastly, I still haven't tried the MediaDirect 2.0 on my I6000d although I might try tonight or tomorrow. Right now I'm just making an image of the HD of my
I6k using Norton Ghost 10 in case that things go wrong after messing up with MediaDirect.

    Thank you

I was wondering, does MediaDirect allow you to load up winamp to stream internet radio?

hi there everyone, anyone out there have the mediadirect 2 installer or iso with them, can anyone pls post it so that people can get it here instead of ordering it from dell,it would really help a lot of people having this same problem of dell not providing the installation cd of media direct 2, i have an inspiron 6400 laptop, just bought it a couple of days ago but it does not have an os and mediadirect 2 the only thing it have is a cd for the drivers, which by the way does not have the md2 installer,so if anyone can really do me a favor here and let me download the md2 installer that would be a grate deal to many

    thanks guys

    cheers

Sorry, but you are going to have to contact Dell on this matter. The file is not available for download, so any links that are posted are considered piracy.

I apologize, but this thread should have been closed several months ago.
