Hi, I/m having a problem with my Dell Media Direct. Just recently it stopped working for me. When I press the button on my laptop or try to start it from the menu nothing happens. I downloaded the Media Direct Repair Utility from from Dell site and burned the Media Direct Repair Utility file R121517 with ISORecorder. I then restarted and pressed F12, selected CD/DVD pressed enter, typed in cd \MD2, typed in Repair, clicked ok and then the screen said done. I removed my cd and clicked on the power key, just as instructed in the Dell readme. When I restarted the laptop I tried the Media Direct again but nothing happens. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong someone please help! Thanks so much!

Ok, wait. When you're in Windows and you press the button, it doesn't work? Just re-install MediaDirect using the disk while in windows. If you're talking about using the button when the notebook is powered off, thats different, but it sounds like you're talking about from within windows.

    Let me know,

No I reinstalled it and turned windows on. I was on the desktop and then pressed the button.

Can you be as specific as possible? Where did you re-install it? If you boot off the MediaDirect CD, and "install" it there, it re-partitions your hard drive and then you have to reinstall windows. if you re-install it from within windows (windows is running, you insert the media direct CD, and run the installer), it will re-install MediaDirect and ask you to reboot. you should then reboot and try it from within windows again once the computer starts up.

I'm assuming since Windows is still working, you installed it from within windows like I said, but I want to make sure. So, The mediaDirect button does nothing while in windows, and if you click START--- MediaDirect, nothing happens as well?

If THIS is the case, go into the control Panel and use the "Programs and Features" option, find MediaDirect in the list of installed applications, and remove it. Reboot the notebook and once back in windows, re-install using the CD again.

I went to the dell website where it told me to download dell media software onto my computer. Then I had to click the Media Direct Repair Utility file R121517 and burn it to a cd. I do not have the original cd so this is why I went to the website. Then after the cd was burned I put it into the laptop and restarted. At the start just when the dell logo appeared I pressed f12 and then chose to boot through the cd.
The I just started it again but the repair didnt work.
I dont wat to remove the program because I do not have the original cd so I dont think I would get it back on my repair cd.

Check and sure that the followings is OK:
    1. Your HDD has 2 hiden partitions (pri 47MB and 2GB MEDIADIRECT labeled one). If lost one of above 2, MediaDirect was not installed an can not work.
    2. Hiden partition with label MEDIADIRECT was almost free (nearly 2GB free) means MediaDirect was not installed on your system.

The image of Media Direct Repaire Utility IS NOT Media Direct Installation Source. If dos not have Media Direct Re-Installation CD (or DVD) kit, you can contact DELL Support to get it (free for America) or search and download it by torrent.

It might be helpful if you listed your operating system and the version of MD you're trying to fix, the computer model wouldn't hurt either.
