I just reformatted Vista and installed XP on my new vostro 1500. I heard that if I press the media direct button I won't be able to boot on the OS. Is that true? Is there anyway to disable the button? If not ima tape a dime over it lol...

not necessarily. I recommend getting rid of the whole thing. Just use a partition program (I used partition magic) and delete the partition and merge it with the main one. This way it wont nuke your OS when you hit the button and you can map it to something else.
When you press the button it calls up the MBR (Master Boot Record) looking for the MediaDirect partition (2.5-3GB). If it is still there but the program isn't installed properly then it screws up the MBR and now your partitions get lost. If there is no MediaDirect partition it just moves up to the next partition which should be your OS. So now the button just boots your OS instead of violating it...
Correct me if I am wrong, but it is a better idea to just get rid of it. -
If I format that partition nothing will happen when I press the button?

Just where is this partition? When I click Computer, all I see is C: and the Recovery partition. How do I find and format this partition?

it is a hidden fat32 partition - you need to use disk partitioning tools to see it.
