Dell Media Direct - Playing CD/DVD's without booting? Am I wrong on this??
XPS 1530, 3gb, T8300 processor, bought June 2008.
Not a big deal but I thought on this Dell laptop with MediaDirect you can insert a CD/DVD without fully booting to Windows Vista and play such..
But I think I may be wrong.
Can someone help me out?
Thanks
Peter

I don't know if the 1530 has it but yea it simply is a special partition with the media direct software and you just have to boot to that partition using the media direct button on the system.

Thanks so much. It is a button you push for Media Direct. BUT I just found out on Dell Support site (a miracle a solution is there) that if you have more than one Vista account or a password protected account, it will boot into Vista first.
Oh well-I need the security.
No big deal, just exploring the features of the new laptop
Hate the webcam though--slow FPS.
Thanks again

I have two accounts, one with a password, one without, and it still works just fine. -
So you are saying you have Vista and 2 accounts (one with password) and you can press Media Direct button (left of power button) insert a CD/DVD and it will play?
Thanks
Peter
PS: My XPS was broken upon receipt-needed new LCD screen. Got it but they make it hard to install. Took tech 3.5 hours to install. -

» Does MediaDirect Require Login?
Logging on is required when using MediaDirect if one or more of the conditions below are true.
More than one user account is set up on the computer.
The user account is set up to use a password.
MediaDirect does not bypass these settings. In this way, it helps maintain the security settings that are set up on the computer. If you do not need multiple user accounts on the computer or if you do not need a password for the user account, use the User Accounts item in the Control Panel. In User Accounts, you can remove the user account from the computer, or to remove the password from the user account.
