    Hi,

I just got a new Dell M5510 running windows 10 and for my HDMI out to my LG IPS 28" monitor the font's look horrible.

The dell display looks great but the font on my 1080 display looks horrible.

Does anyone know why this is so bad? How can I fix it?

I do not have scaling adjusted its set to 100% on my second computer screen.

Also some applications render impossible to read. Native Java UI applications.

NOTE: this only happens when I use the laptop AND the external monitor. If I close my laptop and restart the computer and only use the external monitor it renders correctly.

If on the other hand I then open my laptop screen to QHD it will have super small text and not render the laptop correctly.

    Thank you

Have you ran all updates like Dell Update or Dell Command Update? And also full windows updates?

Make sure to run the updates while the monitor is attached and detected by the machine.

HiDPI/high resolution and Windows don't mix well together.

Are you making an assumption here or have you had this issue?

All the windows updates are done.

I dont have an application "Dell Update' or "Dell Command Update" and I do not want to download unrequited software.

So your saying people running multiple monitors and mixed resolutions dont exist in Windows...

The best way I have found to fix this is to run everything at 1080p both external monitors and the laptop which is a disappointment since the laptop is 4k.

I had the same issue but with a different Dell model some time ago and the updating drivers solved the issue. In any case, installing the latest drivers places a check on the list of things that you can try.

Dell Command Update or Dell update is actually useful and is one of the first things that I run when I get a new Dell computer for setup. It automatically downloads and installs (with your approval) things like new drivers for chipsets or new BIOS updates. I am guessing that you did a clean install of windows if you are not seeing Dell Command Update or Dell Update.

If you are not comfortable in installing, Dell Command Update or Dell Update, you can go to:
    http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19?c=&l=&s=

and enter your Service Tag. Go then to "Drivers & Downloads" to see all of the available drivers for your specific machine.

Also, if you click on "Contact Us" on the right of the window, you can click on "Get Technical Support" to contact a Dell technician to walk you through some troubleshooting steps. I personally prefer doing it through a chat window than through a phone.
