I am thinking about turning a cheap M4800 into a project laptop. It's got a M5100 GPU and I don't know if I can upgrade the screen to a 4k or UHD+... just something with IPS because the 1080p one is not bad but not great.
But I don't know how that works. I don't know if the M5100 has pin out for eDP? I know the FHD AU Optronics B156HW02 is LVDS (2pin + 6pin).
The other option is a 1080p LVDS panel with 2pin and 8pin, or 2pin and 10pin connector, but agian I don't know if the M5100 has support for that, or is it just a matter of getting a different cable?
Finally, will any of the above options work if I put a WX 4150 in? From what I have read it is a drop in replacement for the M5100. I am not sure if it has eDP so that I can upgrade the GPU?
So options are:
I think I'd prefer option 2 but I have no idea what if the cable will support the extra pins for the panel, nor do I know if the panels will even bolt on with the screw holes that is in the M4800.
- Upgrade to SHARP LQ156D1JW02, the official 4k panel in the M4800.. possibly needing a new cable, not sure about graphics card compatibility with the M5100 or WX 4150.
- Upgrade to something like LP156WF3-SLB2 (10bit) or G156HAN02.1 (8bit) at 1080p. I'd be happy with either if they would work with the WX 4150 or even the M5100
- No panel upgrade will work for my particular model and I should have instead gotten a Zbook G2 with more modern internals.
Thanks for the help!
