It is really annoying as I can't find any option to deactivate it. I have v. 10.1.0.3 for the Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG that came with the notebook.
Any idea how to turn the beeping off? I read some beep posts on the toshiba forum about a similar problem but don't know if they are connected.

I had the same issue. Somehow it went away but I messed with so many settings that I don't recall how I fixed it.

I haven't experienced any beeping, do you mean when the wireless connection connects and a small message on the bottom right appears and makes a BLIP sound?

Yes that is correct. It is independent of any Windows theme that may be used (ie DaVinci, Aquarium or space etc).

I have now noticed it beeps at all error windows as well. Entering the wrong password at login for example. It seems to be the pc speaker error sound from old desktop machines. I am going to try look thru the bios but I don't recall seeing it there.

My Inspiron 6400 now does this when it detects a wireless network since I've done a clean install and it's loud and very annoying. It didn't do it before. Is there a way to turn it off or should I install again?

I tried listening to an MP3 in Windows Media Player today and there was no sound. The only sounds I get are beeps from various things. The Windows sound scheme was playing okay yesterday.

I've checked the devices and audio drivers are installed, so have I missed something?

After turning the Windows sound scheme back on the beep went away and was replaced by the associated Windows sounds, but when I turn them off the beep is back. I've never known a PC or laptop to do this before and I don't recall this one doing it before the clean install. I don't want any sounds or beeps.

I have done the same thing and the beep is gone. I like to have a quite computer too. If default beep is set to [none] my laptop would start beeping.

So I did the following to make my laptop totally quiet:

    1. Open the Start>Accessories>Entertainment>Sound Recorder
    2. Do a File>Save
    3. Name it Quiet.wav
    4. Save the blank WAV file to C:\Windows\Media
    5. Open the Start>Control Panel> Sounds and Audio Devices
    6. Set the sound scheme to "No Sounds"
    7. Assign the Blank.Wav to the [Default Beep]
    8. Save your sound scheme as another name
    9. Click Apply

Your computer should be totally quiet now. :)

Good instructions! That was/is going to be my course of action.

It's strange that the beep is there when the sound scheme is set to No Sounds though, especially as I've never experienced this on any other laptop, notebook or PC.
